saltyfishy
My name is Deb and I have been a SW addict for almost 2 years. My first tank, a 10 gallon nano that lasted 6 months (that's a White Sebae Anemone per the LFS) My second tank was a 30g that actually lasted a year, before everything outgrew it! Note: The Blue Hippo was smaller than a dime, laying in the corner of a bare 10g at the LSF and I had to save it. Had always planned on giving it away when it got too big. The White Sebae ended up being a staving & near death BTA. This was taken on July 8th, a year after I bought it: That evening my daughter came over to help me with the new tank. She asked me if I was going to get another BTA and my answer was no, didn’t want another one. It must have heard me because it split the next day, July 9th, while I was at work! In mid June, I bought an existing 90g reef setup. The owner moved to a 120 bow & the 90 had been neglected. The LR & LS were put on air, heat & light while the equipment was cleaned & tank was painted. There was a ton of Aiptasia on the LR. I was able to kill off most with Joes Juice before adding livestock. Moving day for the 30 came about 3 weeks sooner than intended when a heater malfunction took the temp to 99 degrees. At first, the only thing that died was the Frogspawn, within 2 days all the Pink Coraline died. With the tank crashed, it was better to move things to the cycled 90g. So far everything is doing great & I still have lots of empty spaces to fill!
dsoz
Very nice start. Glad you can share with us. And WELCOME to the club. I started my addiction about 10-15 years ago while I was going to SOSC (now SOU). There was a fish store in downtown Medford. I don't remember the name of it. Is it still there? They sold me a bunch of stuff that I should not have had based on my lights. I killed many anemones and corals. It is all my fault because I was trying to be cheep, and did not know any better. You have a great start. If you need any advice, there are a lot of people here that know a lot! It seems that there is an expert for every topic. I hope that you can make it to a meeting someday so that we can meet you in person. Can you travel to Portland on the 19th to make it to our BBQ? It would be great if you can. Maybe there is someone close to you that you can carpool with. dsoz

And yes, both sell livestock without any thought to the home that life is going to! When I moved up to the 30, the 10 was given to my daughter. Nui Kai sold her a Mandarin. After I explained what this fish needed to live she took it to the other LFS to trade. The 2nd LFS, who sells only SW, took the Mandarin, and sold her a Tang. She knew enough to question the Tang in a 10g, but not enough to disbelieve the LFS owner when he assured her it would be fine in a 10g. The tang died within a few days. The learning curve is tough! Sadly, Portland is too far for me to come to the meetings. I was referred to this site when I put a post on another forum looking for So Oregon reefers and/or a club down here. There is a group that meets in Grants Pass, but nothing local to Medford/Ashland area. Looks like I will just have to start one

saltyfishy
Yay, finally found out where they are! I work for the Nickel & my co-worker gave me a piece of paper with "totally exotic corals" on it. They had called inquiring about advertising rates. Sadly, there was no phone number, address on the note & no account yet, so I couldn't contact them. I am going to call them today and see if I can visit them tomorrow. There are a couple of SW stores in Grants Pass that my daughter & I were going to check out tomorrow, maybe I can surprise her with this instead! They are about 5 blocks from me. I don't know what is more exciting, the thought of looking at all those beautiful corals or finally finding a LFS I can trust????? And today is payday, hahahaha! saltyfishy
Here are some shots when I started the tank: At the sellers home Took about 6 days to clean it up & paint. Aiptasia was living in all the equipment, overflows, plumbing, sump, refuge.
saltyfishy
Some of my treasures: Brown toadstool, long polyp Blue Mushrooms - Actinodiscus Alveopora (Branch) Coral (The BTA in the corner has since moved, still on the same rock, but on the other side so the foot can be in shade, this is in the 90g.) BTA's (taking a break in the 30g, this is normal, the lump of white you see on the bottom BTA is the split part healing, this is the parent)
dsoz
Very nice pictures indeed! Let us know how the coral trip turns out. Payday, and a trip to the fish store... A dangerous combination. Don't spent the food budget! On the other hand, Top Raman is delicious. dsoz

My new additions are a Fox coral & a Hammer Coral. Also bought my daughter a Fox Coral and an Orange Ricordia. I was only able to see half of their stock (2 locations) because Jody was putting new tanks in. Next payday, I'll check out his corals. Keith has a great setup & was very helpful. I'll get some pictures up in a day or two, of my new treasures.
