Palani
Howzit guys, I know calurpa has calupins, which is a toxin that is released in the water and inhibits and often kills SPS in the wild. I was wondering if chateomorpha has any toxins and what is it called? Just a quick question.
Michael7979
I might be way off here but I DO NOT believe it to have toxins. The reason it is so popular is that it never goes asexual like other macros which is when the toxins are released. That is my understanding but I'm not at all sure about that. So if toxins are present I DO NOT know.......... Like I say my understanding.......... not a for sure fact.
JManrow
I have not found any sources confirming Chaeto producing toxins. I did find instances of more amphipods and beneficial life in tanks containing it. Anthony Calfo states in this article that Chaetomorpha does not release harmful toxins. http://www.reefland.com/rho/0105/main2.php
Palani
Oh nice, I was just reading an article saying how macro algae is to blame for some coral deaths in the wild and I just wanted to know if chateomorpha was one of them.
danlu_gt
My chateo started to turn pale and died off about a few weeks ago. Corals seems to be fine.
