old salt
So I just treated my tank just the way the instructions say on the box I've waited a few days and now I'm ready to turn on everything as it was before. But when I turn on my skimmer it goes crazy and overflows. Any help would be appreciated if anybody has experience with this.
rworegon
Did you do at least a 20% water change?
old salt
Not yet I was gonna give it a few more days
Blue Z Reef
Yeah everyone's skimmer goes bonkers after treatment. It's easier to deal with if you have a DC skimmer (to adjust speed up slowly) but you really just need to let it foam and get the stuff out. Run some fresh carbon and skim with your outlet wide open. Refill with saltwater If your skimming like crazy. I find that it cuts it out after about 30 min to an hour of very wet skimming.
ocboat
I have had the same experience as Blue Z Reef. If your skimmer has a drain tube, you can just let your skimmer drain into a bucket or two and do your water change that way.
rworegon
It had probably done all it's going to do after 48 hours. Do your water change and get in with life. Your skimmer will continue to go berserk until you do the water change. I like to do more than 20%, but that's just me.
old salt
Alright so I did a 30% water change and everything seems to be back to normal, with the exception of the algae problem which is gone. looks like I won this battle. old salt
I did a 25% and it died down and I thought it was back to normal. But this morning the skimmer was going nuts again. So it looks like I should have done a larger water change. I'm gonna do another one and see what happens.
old salt
well i did a 25% water change and things started to look like normal but this morning i found my skimmer going crazy. looks like im just going to have to do another water change and probably closer to 40%-50% this time.
