Trenton Henderson
Every time I get blue green chromis I am always left with one. I've only bought three at a time though. I've heard that it is best to buy twice as many as you want because about half of them die. Is this true? And how many in a group is best? I have a 55 gallon. Arsonmfg
Yes it's true, your better off buying double. As for how many it really depends on how heavy your bioload is on your tank already and your future livestock plans.

Blue Z Reef
You don't by chance have clown fish do you? Chromies and clowns ca be enemy's to death! I have 4 huge 3-4" chromies in my 210. None died but I bought them larger at 2-3" about. In general larger fish are hardier IME.

earthbound
I have had good luck buying little baby chromis and let them grow up together. My theory is that way they can sort out the group pecking order as they mature, rather than dropping a bunch of mature chromis into a tank all at once with them all wanting and thinking they are the top dog and slowly eliminating each other one by one. I don't think chromis in general slowly die off because they aren't hardy I think it has more to do with aggression within the group.
