oldbrownies
Does anyone else use this or have experience with using aragonite "milk", I've been doing it lately and I think I like it. Just take a couple cups or aragonite and rinse it once to get the nasties out, then rinse it a second time in ro water and just add that "milk" to the tank. Use it over and over and I only use about 2 cups a week, after the water is clear its totally clean dust free sand, and it really seems to get my tank happy. I've noticed some corals looking much more vibrant and some increase in growth. Any thoughts on this?
180Bob
I have about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of argonite milk that has settled to the bottom of my tank as a sand bed so I don't see any reason to add any more.
oldbrownies
I dunno this stuff ends up disolving pretty well, the cloud takes about 5 min to clear and it seems to keep the tank pretty balanced
giant squid
do you mean the "aragomilk" liquid that comes in a bottle usually next to "purple up" at your LFS? or is there a product like a sand that sits on the bottom and slow dissolves? oldbrownies
not a product at all, just ro water that was used to rinse out aragonite sand so its all milky with aragonite dust.
dsoz
Do you keep buying more sand to get this stuff? Is it left-over from when you did set up your sand bed? How do you keep getting more?
oldbrownies
oh I've got some extra bags laying around, I've just used them so far. when I run out I will end up needing to buy more, but sand is pretty cheap so I'm not so worried
andy
Are you sure the dust is entering solution and not just settling out? I thought aragonite wouldn't dissolve unless in low-pH water (thus the need for CO2-based calcium reactors).
oldbrownies
It sure seems to be, I've stopped adding kalkwasser and for the past month my heavily stocked SPS tank has stayed at 500ppm of Calcium, and my alk is around 4.5 mq with pH swinging from 8.4 at night to 8.56 in the day (instead of my old swing of 8.15-8.45)
