Kimberlee
I just went from T-5Ho to a 20,000k 250 watt halide and all the corals in my 40B have colored up at least by twice. I have to encourage you to keep the light the switch has done wonders for me. Just a little food for thought.
PowderBlue
Do you also have actinics? Or just the metal halide? Thanks for the info!
Kimberlee
I use my T-5's for the actinics, but that's because I like the extra color. I get enough light out of the 250 that I could chuck the T-5's if I wanted too.
Kimberlee
Oh and I'll add a recent experience.... I currently have 2 40B in the house that both went through nitrate spikes of 80ppm. Same skimmer both have sumps 1 had T-5s only and the other had T-5's and a the halide. The T-5 tank lost a few corals and a lot bleached. The other tank w/ the halide was just fine. All the corals road out the spike just fine and there were no losses. Point behind this is I thinking a good strong light can make up for some of our mistakes and aid during the bumps in the road. Not a substitute for good tank maintenance, but could help more than we think.
PowderBlue
Oh wow! Thanks kimberlee I may just run the halide and t5s!
Kimberlee
No prob, just sharing experience though. It could of been something else that saved the halide lit tank, but even if that's the case the halide is still the responsible party for the increased color.
