andy
I finally got around to making my DIY router table this weekend. The old one was too small for real work. Now I can start work on my rectangular-bodied skimmer. (clap)
chewie
So, when is the DIY skimmer workshop? Nice table. Is it 6'?
andy
Yeah, 6' table -- it's a nice sturdy lab table, bought at an excess equipment auction. Broke my heart to cut that big hole in it... for about 3 seconds :-) Regarding a DIY skimmer workshop, I've thought about it but construction takes relatively long (due mostly to acrylic cement dry times) so I'm not sure it's a possibility. I'm planning on writing up and photographing the process though.
Sol
Very nice. Only thing I would suggest is to incorporate some sort of dust collection system. For example, design a port so that a shop-vac hose can sit behind the fence. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about: (not my pic, just pulled off google) Routers produce the most dust of any tool I know, and I hate sweeping up after them Just a thought, other than that, nice table! -Sol
Nyles
GREAT IDEA.
andy
Good suggestion. My router is ported to accept a shopvac hose, but the work-surface still gets messy -- some kind of tabletop intake would be nice.
chewie
I was only kidding about the workshop. But I'll keep you in mind for some custom work. BTW, your blog is pretty cool!
andy
Thanks, others have suggested various DIY workshops (Maxi-jet mod, skimmers, etc) so my fevered little brain jumped to the literal (nutty)
