You shouldn't rely on your lfs to stock your tank' date=' Do your own research and buy what is approprate for your system.[/quote']

I'm 100% in agreement. Myself understanding this more than most as the rules of keeping a nano or pico tank are different, and I certainly can't expect any LFS to know what's appropriate for my tanks. Not too many people are familiar with these setups as they're relatively new in terms of viability and long term survivability. The list of what you can't do in a small system is bigger than the list of what you can do, so you need to research ad-nauseum before adding anything to your tank. Also, having had many chats with different LFS employees/owners, it's safe to say that many of them are very knowledgeable about many things, but it's impossible for them to know everything about your tank and your husbandry practices and what is ideal for your system. If you don't know what a particular coral or fish is, you shouldn't buy it until you know how to take care of it properly. Anyhow, this is nothing new, it's a philosophy that everyone should subscribe to.

I never asked, or expect anyone to do my research. the issue is the nem was toast in 3 days. (My other four were then & stilll are, doing great.) i took & a water sample in so he could compare his test kits with my test kits for accuracy, (as is noted in my thread). They were not interested in testing, since they are not repsonsible . helping folks figure things is a philosphy all lfs should subscribe too. most of the ones i have gone too do.

Thats really odd, I have him check my water all the time to compare. Has never onced questioned it. Was it Cos or someone he had working in there? Maybe im the lucky one. Feel like im the OIAB advocate here, but I have had good experiences there. Theres people that swear for that place across the river. Personally he will never get another dime of my money. I will always give a place a second chance. Bad days happen. But they happened again and again.

Noobs, were all the lights out or just the open sign? I know that light is always off it seems. My 6 year old tells him every time we go in there.

It was just the open sign. I won't bother to shop there anymore so I didn't pull in to the parking lot. I used to be the OIAB cheerleader but Cos treated me with zero respect the last three times I was there. I take my money elsewhere due to his poor attitude and assuming I want a "deal" on everything. I spend well over $2k there just last year and sure I would expect some decent deals once in awhile but I promise you the business I sent his shop was much more valuable then the couple of dollars I saved from him. Unfortunately most of the people I did send there have been burned from him as well. Just get's old when there's other shops out there that are willing to take your money. I didn't shop at SWF for a long time but gave Patrick another shot and have had a surprisingly great experience every time I'm there. Anyways people are going to shop where they have great experiences and I used to have the same warm feeling you have there, it just got old when I would be there to shop and then start bagging fish for his customers and get nothing out of my days off in return.

Oh and the fact of how he always talked smack about "the forum" people and how he doesn't need their business. It would have been much better off if Robert was still there but I can understand why he's not when you go into business with a friend I'm sure it can be tough.

Anyways wasn't meaning for this to come out this way but I do love shopping with Jody at TECO as well as Garrett at TPA. Don't ask for deals and always get amazing customer service from both!

Your not the only one, I've had nothing but good experiences with OIAB too. Esp with Cos, he gives you the best deals! :) I like buying local when I can, so I definately prefer to spend my dime with them over the rest.

I remember him telling me about the copper thing like a month ago when I was in, but didn't affect any of the corals I bought, they colored right back up and are growing fine now (scratch)
