AquaticEngineer
I'm doing LEDS also Right now on my 110 I have a single waterproof LED strip light that gives me more than enough light to see whats going on. When I do my display tank I'm either going to using tight optics with a couple PAR38/PAR30 bulbs, or do a homemade 50w led spotlight I'm working on
ShaunMonahan
I do use LED's. I use two Ecoxotic fixtures over the tank I'm doing LEDS also Curious: Is/was there a noticeable difference in alga growth when you changed up to the LED's? AquaticEngineer
I run my lights for maybe an hour at most a day when I'm feeding the tank and working on it and I have not once had to wipe algae off the glass of my tank in almost a year. I also keep a lot of live snails in the tank for the Ochre stars to feed on, and I also have a 5" abalone.
steveweast
I noticed no real difference in algae growth after going to LED's from T5's. I went with the LED's to really light up the tank when viewing or photo shooting......but, they are seldom all on at the same time (mostly to control algae and that no critter in the tank cares about light). My tank is mostly lightly lit with a few of the LED's....and has a little ambient light as well.

AquaticEngineer
Quick question for you guys, what other things would you recommend for gear to go tide pool collecting? I already have: Neoprene stockingfoot Chest Waders Knee Pads Insulated backpack hand shovel Rock hammer Chisel waterproof flashlight water shoes and river sandals w/covered toe Lots of ziplocks and tupperware for short term retention Coolers and buckets w/ lids drilled for airlines for long term retention (ie the day and drive home) Power inverter and air pump with gang valves A couple large strainers for use as holding stations while collecting in one spot Any other suggestions or ideas for me? AquaticEngineer
Got an ID on the small white crabs with the lines on their shells. They are juvenile Red Rock Crabs. This is what the shell on them looks like. They are both about an inch and a half across. I found this cool image guide that shows the different variants in color patterns exhibited by juvenile Red Rock Crabs.
finch6013
Is there a size limit for red rock like there is dungeness?
AquaticEngineer
Is there a size limit for red rock like there is dungeness? ODFW Regs for personal collection are "Red Rock Crab - LIMIT: 24 crabs, any size or sex." This link to the ODFW is great for referencing invert limits and licenses. Its more straight forward than the entire marine regs booklet. http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/shellfish/regulations.asp
