NoobtoSalt
So not trying to jack this thread but since were on the topic of crabs and I've seen these crabs called all sorts of things.....what do you think it is???? It was on a piece of SPS and a few weeks ago I thought it was an acro crab which I now know it isn't. From what I've read they are called gorilla crabs but I thought they were much larger than this? Michael7979
With crabs I have always followed this rule. Hairy legs, pointy pinchers, and/or red eyes....... they need to be removed.
JasonH
xanthidae crab. Not a gorilla crab, but definitely a bad player. There are some hairy commensal crabs, particularly on Pocillapora corals. However, the blue eye's are a key indicator. Kill it! Kill it twice! I'm getting out of having any sps anyways. Would it become an issue in the tank otherwise?
JasonH
I don't know for sure, but my guess is that it would eat other types of coral. I wouldn't risk it. But I truly don't know.
