NoobtoSalt
Looks like a paly of some sort. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
dsoz
They are not zoanthids. They are palythoa (a closely related coral). They don't have a specific "name" as far as I know. The ones that I have in my tank I call the "ugly palys" LOL dsoz
Mandinga
super fast growing paly's. I'd recommend keeping them away from any choice colonies of zoas, they will overrun them. I placed a colony very similar to these next to my back wall of the tank...they will grow right up the wall quickly! try it!
Rick
What do they look like when they are closed up? You cannot tell by looking at them the way they are now whether they are zoanthids or palythoas since both can be large or small and have short or long tentacles. In general the ones with larger heads and longer tentacles get called palys by those in the hobby but it is not always accurate. A more accurate way to tell is that the Palys usually have stems that appear to have sand particles in them. (Even this is not a sure method though it is more accurate than just looking at the heads) Palys also generally grow with a loose mat where each one appears to be a separate animal rather than being grouped together. It's the latter reason that I would want to see the stems first before calling these palys.
Mr S
I agree with Mandinga. Watch them closely. They are invasive. However they would look cool if you let them cover the whole back of your tank wall! JMO
