nyoder23
SO I am building a 90G reef tank and still don't know all the names or what they look like. So just wanting to get some ideas for buying live rock and the names and which work best for coral. I will be setting up the tank to run after next week and post some pics then. Thanks for the help! CA2OR
Re: Need Ideas For Rock I have not noticed a difference in which rock is better or worse. I have fiji, tunga, DIY, artificial, and some others and I have good growth on all of em. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
dsoz
How are you getting your rock? If it is at a LFS then you don't need to know the names, you just buy the pieces that you like. If you are ordering it online, then you need to know the names of the different types, which is usually named after where it comes from. After that, it is all personal preference. Have you considered man-made concrete rock? I use some of it in my tank, and a lot of other people have some in their tanks too. Once it gets growing coraline or coral over it you can't tell the difference. I have a bunch of man-made rock that is tank ready (it actually has palythoas and halimeda algae growing in with it right now). You can buy concrete rock at a fraction of the cost of "real" rock and it does not deplete resources out of the ocean. Send me a PM if you want to come look at some. dsoz

gradth
Also if you wanna go with dry rock look http://www.marcorocks.com/ Right now they are offering free shipping on there Key Largo. I have 100 lbs of it in my reef mixed with 80 lbs of live rock. Took about 4 or 5 months to get coraline covered. Its great stuff. Best part is its dry and you can aquascape it the way you want it. 7Max-GTE
Marco Rocks is awesome, but you have to be careful - there are a few horror stories about his customer service. Bulk Reef Supply rock is pretty much the same, and roughly the same price. They just got the pukani back in stock which is ridiculously porous, so you are getting more volume for the weight when you buy it, and the pukani looks the best to me. Lowman
I would buy dry rock at Bulk Reef Supply. The Pukani is so awesome, and the price until Friday with free shipping is unbeatable
