UPSCALES Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 We will be getting live brine in tomorrow. I am going to try carrying it for a while and see if there is a demand. It will be about $3 a portion. Should be in after 3:00. Travis Quote
inkto Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 I grabbed my fish some live brine shrimp for an early xmas present yesterday and they all went nuts for it... even my Mural Goby was mid-tank scooping them up. I hope they don't find out how cheap their present was. Here are a couple pics of what I haven't fed yet... about 1/2 the $3 portion: Quote
Nyles Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Nice quantity and size. Just watch out for stubborn fish that thanks that this is all they want to eat, but a good place to start for a live fish that wont eat. Thanks for posting! Quote
inkto Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Following some tips from Travis I'm keeping mine in the garage in about a gallon of water and I just removed about 5% of what you see in the pics that were dead tonight. Most are still moving about slowly so it looks like they will stay alive a week or so without much intentional effort to maintain them. Quote
Liquid Hobby Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 I was told to put an air stone in the container when I got some a while ago. I kept a bunch alive for about a week in small tupper ware container with an airstone in it. Next time I will feed them, as I been told they are not that nutritious after they are 1 day old, with empty bellies and no egg sack. Quote
Nyles Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 all correct, you need airstone for flow to get oxygen in there, I would just throw in some flake food they will eat anything, I have them living in my refugium and skimmer sections from feeding tank. Quote
R-3 Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Is there a certain temperature needed? I was thinking about keeping some in the garage but its pretty cold out there right now. Later Ryan Quote
inkto Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Colder temps will slow their bodily functions and keep them alive longer... Travis recommends it as well though he mentioned some people keep them at room temp. Quote
Nyles Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 I grow mine out at room temp, and feed to tank and they live in there for many months, so I would expect they are very versatile. For grow out they say 1.019 salinity and my tank is at 1.025 so that can vary as well. Quote
Liquid Hobby Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Do you still have some live brine available? Quote
UPSCALES Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 The live brine experiment didn't go so well. I only sold a few portions so I don't think I am going to bring them in again. Travis Quote
