dang it.. everything I read (of course they came from the sellers) says they are the most affective ones.. I have about 10 that I can see and want to eradicate them. I've tried injection, peppermint shrimp, and copperband butterfly without any luck. The only way is to get the rock out and scrap it off, but some of the rocks will require removal of other rocks which I rather not have to do. Want to save that as my last option.

Jim I know a breeder of them he sells them "adults for $10 each. I wanted to try some also for a nagging aptasia problem. I treated them with aptasia-x and made them worse.

my wrasses eat my pepperment shrimp and i have not tried the CB yet.

If you want to go in we can split the shipping.

I heard that about file fish, but I can't risk having a fish go after my sps... it's already hard enough trying to catch one fish.

Randy, I'm game.. but how much is shipping? I found a site that sold each for $14.99, but the shipping was $40.40. I was going to order 2, but given the total would be close to $40 each.. no freaking way.. I'll take my rocks out first. :)

don't scrape them off that only makes it worse. if you do a manual method of pulling out the rocks, use a heat torch and burn them off. 100% every time, but only works if you don't have any corals near by. scraping them only helps them grow back 10 times more.

You will need a lot of them to ensure a good level of reproduction. You want to have a number that is big enough to compensate the fast growing rate of aiptasia. They eat aiptasia' date=' but kinda slowly[/quote']

Approx 9 per 75 gallons adult age.

It can get really expensive chasing after aiptasia. I tend to just live with a small one or two. I always have about 2-3 pepermints in my tanks and they tend to keep the population under control. it always takes time, usually a week before it disappears. if its in the 1/4" around size i will torch it if i can get the rock out.

Also cut back on your feedings, you got to train your pets that they have to forage for food or they will get spoiled when you feed daily. I usually just spot feed my fish and try to limit what the inverts get so they will do their job.

when I do scrap the aiptasia off the rocks, I do it outside the tank and also scrap the underlying rock surface so there are no residue.. have worked for the past 10 years.

So far it hasn't been an epidemic, but prefer to keep it under control now than later.

slow eater huh???

I thought something was eating my peps too, it just took a few batches before i got some that lived. I'm not saying that yours aren't getting eaten, I just had the same experience, i ended up grabbing as big of shrimp as i could get and they tended to have a better survival rating. I have also had my peppermints disappear for 2 weeks at a time and then show up again. They tend to be nocturnal only. I have also found them in the filter sock too after slipping through the cracks in the overflow.

shipping is $45-$50 and the nudes are $10 each if we have three people we are at $15-$17 for shipping each i am ok with that and you never know one or two more people might join in

here is the pm from the supplier

Hey Randy,

They are $10 each, free shipping on orders of 40 or more, otherwise shipping has been around $45-55 since fedex just raised their rates another 14%. I ship out at 5pm they should be to your local fedex/kinkos by 9am normally, so very short transit.

General recommendations are 1 per 10 gallons of aquarium volume, it depends a lot on how many aiptasia you have. If you only order a few it will be the next generation of berghia that do most of the work, so it can take several months to completely eradicate the aiptasia problem. I've had many that have wanted to take care of the problem and ordered a couple extra adults and the aiptasia have been gone in just a few weeks.

If anyone has specific questions i'm more than happy to answer any and all questions.

Also to clear up a few questions that many ask,

1. Berghia only eat aiptasia nothing else

2. Berghia are not toxic they will not hurt your fish or your tank if they die

3. When you run out of aiptasia berghia will roam a lot more and you can often catch them out and resell them to other reefers.

4. There is a good chance you will not see them again for quite some time once they are added to a reef.

5. They can handle high flow once acclimated and settled, i've had them in my 20,000 gph SPS tank

6. Fish and peppermint shrimp can and will eat them, they stay within the rockwork and hunt at night to avoid predation. The primary danger is just when you initially put them in the tank.
