culp686
Was just wondering what others use to clean the outside of the glass on your aquariums. We are the neighborhood fish house so we have lots of little fingers touching tanks. The fingerprints drive my wife crazy. So any good ideas will help the marriage. grassi
If glass you can use vinegar. Don't use glass cleaner because it contains ammonia and other bad stuff. If sprayed it can reach your livestock. If acrylic you can use Novus 3. I personally just use some soft cloth, and Novus once a month or so
Michael7979
On my glass tank I just use a damp cloth then use a dry cloth to dry it. Works good for me.
jackaninny
Ammonia free glass cleaner sprayed ON the rag NOT the tank is what I use. Pretty sure I got a 3 pack of cans at Costco along with the rags.
reefnjunkie
Sounds like I need to put the Windex (my present source for cleaning my tank) on the rag first or on the curb???? But that's what I have always done, granted I have a canopy and don't see any mist coming off the glass I spray lightly and close to the glass
Emerald525
I use Windex too and it's been fine. From what I have read as long as you spray it on the cloth first it's not a problem.
sharoleb
My husband is a window cleaner - so my tank gets squeegeed (sp?). He uses Dawn dishwashing soap, works great and non-phosphorous. If ever I get pests in my house plants you can water them w/ soapy (MUST be Dawn) water and it kills them without killing plants, so I'm not too worried using it around the tank. Queen Angel
I do the same thing, I just spray the rag then clean glass. Alot of times, I just wipe with the damp rag that I was using while messing with my tank, and use another dry one to wipe.
culp686
I will have to try the vinegar trick. We have 2 macaws and cant use cleaners around them. My wife uses a special cleaner and vinegar for their cages. Glad to know we can use the vinegar for the tanks too. Thank you for all the input. reef165
I just use two hand towels one with really hot water and the other dry. Ues the one with hot water to remove salt and fingerprints and the other to dry. Works realy well!
