Saltfinsax
Well I snagged the cord with my foot and broke the bulb over my sump in my little frag setup. It has about 30gl total water vol. I tried to get as much of the bulb out as I could but it has live rock in there that I know some Pisces have fell into. Should take more drastic measure? reefnjunkie
I'd try to get some water mixed up and pull everything from the sump and give it a good rinse. When everything is out of the sump, pull it (sump) and rinse it as well. Alot of work but I'm overly cautious-hind sight is a MF'r

Not sure, you may want to google bulb contents/gases etc-really no idea, I would suspect if it was anything overlly toxic/bad you'ld see signs in the tank
reef165
When I first got started in the hobby I had a MH blow up over my tank. I reached in and got most of the glass and metal parts and did a small water shange and kept a close eye on the tank for a couple days. It had no i'll affect but several times over the falowing couple years while sifting my hands through the sand I found pieces of glass the hard way. JasonH
The thing to worry about isn't the glass - it's the mercury. No idea what the negative impact might be, but the spiral CF's are full of mercury.
Saltfinsax
Ok sump cleaned out and 1/2 the water changed. That was something I was not planning on for the day. The more I read up on the white powder or (phosphor) the more I started to worry. Sounds like all kinds of milled down metals in there. I think our kids are going to be mutated freeks from all the CF bulbs we will end up with. But at least the world will be saved.

Now you've got the right perspective! A little poly filter might help take up any heavy metals in there?
