culp686
does anyone know if spirial cfls on a 5g hex tank will work to grow frags? i have an idea that i would like to try, but i don't want to lose frags if it doesn't work. i have a 13w(60w) 6500k in the hood at the moment, but i am building a new hood today. with the new hood, i should be able to bump up to 23w(100w) bulb or bulbs depending on layout. reefnjunkie
Maybe Rick will chime in, I think he had a similar spiral bulb grow out tank using that type of bulb- Do an advanced search for threads started by Rick. G/L
culp686
ok. i will get on that right now. thanks
Bitricker
I know someone was getting decent results. you can get cfl's that fit a standard socket at home depot up to 100W that would work for sure... not too pretty though, they are huge. culp686
i looked it up and, by what i can tell, it worked with softies, other than the alge. i wonder how it is going now.
Hoss
I have seen some 10k and even 20k spiral CFLs at a local hydroponics shop. They had one that was the size of a football.
culp686
i have to work on the layout, but i'm thinking of 2 23w(100w) spirials and a 9w straight pin actinic, that i have laying around, in the middle. i'm heading off to build the hood in a little bit, but by my layout so far, i think i can get it all in there. reefnjunkie
Maybe start a build thread-if you haven't, its always cool looking back at the progress
culp686
a build thread would be great, but i have about an hour on it tomorrow skinning the frame and it will be done. it would have been done today, but the glue wouldn't dry fast enough. culp686
it is done. now i wait for the tank to cycle and the fun will begin. i ended up with 2 23w(100w) spirials and i snuck in a 9w actinic both on seprate plugs, so i can try the 1 hour of actinic, followed by 8-9 hours of both actinic and daylight. we will see how it goes.
