drock59
Does anyone have experience with these skimmers? If so, any feedback appreciated. From what I have read they are pretty sweet skimmers for the money. http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/Protein-Skimmers-MSX-Skimmers/c22_48/index.html
Randy-S
I have this one and love it http://saltwaterconnection.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=113 whisper quiet and pulls a lot of sludge.
Arsonmfg
I have the 250 as well but I got it before they had the option of the Askoll so I have the one with the dual Sicce pumps. By far the best bang for the buck imo. I'm really happy with the skimmer and the amount of nasty junk it pulls.
coralreefer
I have the MSX200 modded with the new reducer and purple pinwheel from Reef Specialist...I have purchased the extended neck head with plans on upgrading to Askoll pump, but now don't know if I need to...this thing skims unbelievably well...a true vacuum cleaner of a skimmer...I highly recommend it...solidly built with no issues and I have no complaints... I also have this skimmer but found that it is quick to overflow if the water level rises even just a little. Do you have this problem Randy, & if so what have you done to combat it. Otherwise this is a great skimmer. This guy will have all your skimmer questions. http://www.reef2reef.com/forums/f30/skimmer-q-thread-25416.html

drock59
Thanks for all the replies. From what I have read, they seem almost too good to be true. This thread piqued my interest. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1676085 Skimmer referenced above: http://www.reefspecialty.com/Protein-Skimmers-Super-Reef-Octopus/c21_103/p459/Super-Reef-Octopus-5000sss-Internal-Protein-Skimmer/product_info.html
Arsonmfg
There are quite a few people that have had overflowing issues, the trick I've found is to cut the outlet pipe about a half inch above the transition to the neck. No more overflow problems... What this does is allows the skimmer to overflow out the top of the outlet pipe if there is a rise in pressure instead of causing the water in the chamber to rise too high in the neck. I honestly don't know why the overflow happen but this solves the problem completely. When I go by the school later this week I'll take a few pictures if you need. Randy-S
No i have not had any overflow problems. Well none now. When i first set it in my sump it was in 14 inches of water and the askoll pump would just fill the entire skimmer and instantly overflow it. It is now in seven inches of water i built a stand for it and it has not overflowed at all since. My sump has a skimmer chamber so the water level is always the same where the skimmer is. I also have this skimmer but found that it is quick to overflow if the water level rises even just a little. Do you have this problem Randy, & if so what have you done to combat it.
