jason7504
im gonna make a clear mesh top for my solana for when i get my flasher wrasse. since the tank doesn't have a lip, how would the top stay on?
impur
I have thought this through since i'll be doing it on my DIY rimless cube. Build the frame out of acrylic. Attach the mesh to the acrylic. Then glue on little tabs that will let the acrylic frame sit just inside the tank and flush with the top. You'll only need 3 tabs really - 2 on each side and one i the back. That way you won't notice it. Did you find clear mesh? If so how large are the squares?
finch6013
take the glass holders that come with the solana and have the mesh top sit on that. you will have to build some sort of frame for the mesh.
jason7504
well there's a thread on RC about it..he took window frame and put in the clear mesh. but im not sure where to get it that wont be a huge amount. i was thinking about getting some window screen and splining the mesh into the frame. ive heard of people using black mesh like the pond screen at petsmart and that its so thin that it doesn't really block any light. but i still kind of wanna use clear
impur
Yah i've seen that thread. I think he sells it too. If you find some let me know, i'd like clear as well. We could get more people i bet. But still the stuff comes in like 100 ft roles LOL
siskiou
I read about that, too, years ago, and wanted to do it. Could never find affordable mesh, though. I'd definitely be interested, if there is a group buy and the price is right.
jason7504
i wonder how this would work http://www.delphiglass.com/index.cfm?page=itemView&itemsysid=182827
finch6013
that stuff might work good. Again you need a small frame but that is easily made. and then set it in on the glass holders. I seen a guy on nano reef do it.
newfisher
How about frag grid in chrome (so it reflects more light) and buildind a frame around it for asthetic purpose, that rests on the rim?
