finch6013
The yellow eyed kole tang caught my eye today and I was wondering if anyone has tried to keep one in a smaller than recommended tank? How agressive are they? If I do get one it will be kept with a flame angel, a perc and maybe a goby in a 34 solana. So it would need to be small in size. nwcoralfarm
You shouldn't ever try to keep a fish in a smaller then recommended tank.
gradth
Would probably become quite a bully in that small of a tank. I had mine in my 55 for qt for about 2 months and he started bullying everyone. Once he was moved back to the 180 he is fine and doesnt start anything. snowpunk
Here, you'll like my answer better... In my experience, I have found the Kole tang to be much less aggressive then most tangs. I have had a few and they have all been very peaceful and done very well. I had one in a 29g long ago and got along with everyone. I have one now in my 75g and he and the wrasse are best buddies, when he isn't already being best buddies with the blenny.(He is kind of a wh*re if you ask me:p) As with all tangs you don't want to coop them up in too small of a tank. Make sure you get one that is very small and he will do great in that tank for a year to two years even depending on how he grows. If you add another tang you will probably have issues but other then that your good. Look for one about quarter size or smaller and you should be fine. They are a bristle toothed tang so they swim less and pick and graze more. Hope it helps!!
