jason7504
i have been using a pinpoint digital thermometer for the last 6 months but i just set up my RKL yesterday and its thermometer says its 3.5 degrees cooler..i dont know which one to believe.. Currently- Pinpoint:81 RKL: 78.6 the probes are pretty much in the same area too..should i just take the average of them? lol
Rick
Get a cheap glass thermometer and use it to verify accuracy. I have one here you can borrow if you don't want to buy one. Or if your still planning to come by today bring yours over and we can test it against mine.
impur
Yah i have one of those glass thermometers in all my tanks just so i can quickly check and verify my controllers have the right temp. But i would trust the controller more than the pinpoint one.
tidalsculpin
Isn't it sad that we trust a .99 cent thermometer over our fancy electronic devices?
siskiou
I had no idea the cheap glass ones are so accurate! Would a glass food thermometer do in a pinch?
tidalsculpin
I would say yes. The coralife digital thermometers are the worst. I have tried two in one tank that measured 4 degrees different.
Rick
Both of the Coralife digital thermometers I have measure within 1/2 a degree or so of the glass thermometer.
Smann
I would say yes. The coralife digital thermometers are the worst. I have tried two in one tank that measured 4 degrees different. I agree completely, I have one in the prop tank and its all over the place compared to a handheld and the chiller. See what other thermometers you have around, cooking, bbq, and check it against those
finch6013
I have a coralife that measures within a degree ish of my glass one. the glass one is hard to read extremely accuratly
jason7504
well i compared my pinpoint to Rics glass and coralife thermometers and mine was 2 degrees off every time so it must be my pinpoint thats the wrong one out of the two. is there a way to calibrate it? i dont think so though
