siskiou
if I use it as a return pump through and SCWD with 2 penductors? Have read a lot about the back pressure being too hard on the pumps, but other people run it with no problems. -Susanne

siskiou
Thanks! I just opened up my broken SCWD to mod it, and am already stuck. The drum came out easily, but does anyone here know how to get the gearbox out? I see no way to do this without damaging the two standoffs that hold the gearbox in place. Anyone here ever done an SCWD mod?

Anyone here ever done an SCWD mod? Not that I want to send you there, I KNOW that it has been done and there are several posts on RC. If you can't find info in there DIY,,, post it. I have seen FULL info on the modification there before
siskiou
I *am* there, but the "press the sides and just pop it out with a screwdriver" does not work for me. Maybe I don't even need to take the drum out, since it's most likely the drum scraping against the inside that's causing the problem? I'm going to do one for fun this winter, for more flow. from RC post's
andy
I thought that for penductors to work, you need a lot more flow than a 1262 can put out... particularly if you're running it through a SCWD. Not positive, just think I read that somewhere...
siskiou
I heard that, too, but there are people who use an eheim and get pretty good flow with penductors, though probably not nearly as much as with a pressure rated pump. The eheim is what I have to work with right now. I might switch it out sometime in the future.
impur
So you can't squeeze the scwd body enough to slip the gearbox bythose standoffs? Do you have a vice? Or try some channel locks.
siskiou
I used a clamp on the seams and it came out easily then. It's all finished up and ready to go on the tank. Mine didn't need a new drum, but the gear box was full of calcium deposits. It'll be good enough until I can afford and OM or something similar in the future.
