I actually text my dad to see if he had any acrylic in he shop and he said he thinks there is some there so I'll go dig through that stuff to see if I can find some! Otherwise Taps is like and hour and a half from my house. I may just try some stainless steal screws for now to see how they do! Otherwise I'll probably just use my left hand also lol!If there is a Taps close to you you might be able to be remnant pieces for a dollar or two. The PVC piece will cost a couple dollars as well. Some glue... your basically set. The nylon threads that hold the lens still can be nice, but I find my left hand does an alright job at that too. I am not to keen on screwing things into my lens.

I currently run Ocean Revives above my frag tanks and they do pretty well. They do not have the controllability that primes do though. I was talking with Jeff a few months ago about a prototype OR light that he was running above one of his tanks that had the ability to control the 5 color channels like the prime. So,I do believe that soon OR is coming out with a controllable light

that's a wonderful idea! I think I'll give that a shot before ordering one. Just need to get some acrylic now....Chris was making something similiar out of PVC and a piece of acrylic. It might suit your needs if your a bit handy.
Thanks

maybe give the guys at The Premium Aquarium a call. They could probably store it for you at their warehouse for a small fee:)Matt......Calvin's tank would be very well suited for your Sohol. Calvin I hope you find a place to home him temp.

To be honest I only read about half of that guys post. Just another person complaining cuz they probably wrote their code wrong or something. When i was doing all of my research on the apex before I bought it I talked to a lot of people and trusted their opinion. I did this because most of the time people only post bad things about the apex online. If you ask everyone on the forum if they use there apex to dose or monitor their calcium reactor, just about all of them will say yes. And then if you ask how many have had their dosing pumps get stuck on, the number will be pretty close to zero. If you do it right and your programming is good, the apex will work just fine. It's simply a computer that does what you tell it to do. There are guys on here that trust their super high end systems to the apex and haven't been let down. The reason I say this is because this hobby is about trial and error. There are so many people that have tried the apex and never had a problem. There is a possibility that something could go wrong, but that possibility also applies to all our other equipment. It is such a small possibility also.

You need two dosing pumps for water change. One to take water out and one to put it back. The two more for alk and calcium. But yes you could do it that way. It's all about how you program it.
If you go with multi head pumps, that changes it a little and I'm not to familiar with that route.

Welcome to the forum Nick! That's awesome to hear that you do this with your son. My father and I do this hobby together also! sorry to hear about your tank loss :( I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your tank though! I would help with the picture problem but I only know how to do it on the app and I imagine youre using the computer.

Finally going to get an RODI unit for this tank, still deciding on which one though. Suggestions?
The anemone cuts from last week are doing well and all healed up:) I only cut half to make sure I knew what I was doing and that the nems could handle it. So this weekend I'll be cutting more. Hopefully in a few months I'll have enough stock to start selling them:)
And of course....here are some pics

This is going to be an awesome tank! I love the sump! Could you give us a front shot of the sump? I want to see the size and different chambers if possible:)

Depending on how many people we get/cost, I would be interested in going in on this also

Yes, you can run anything trough your apex. You don't need to use Neptune gear. You simply just plug the doser into one of the outlets and set it on a timer through the apex. Like mine is set to (turn on) or dose every half hour for a minuet.would the BRS 1.1 Run on the apex?
I'm just leaning away from them dang DOS because of how loud they are

What salt do you use? It may just be super high in calcium and doing consistent water changes will keep it high. Not a bad thing as long as you stay consistent with water changes.

how do you make a custom white balance? I've had the same problem and people told me the same thing but I had no idea how to fix it haha.Mattv is right, u have to set up a custom white balance. I took a pic of my sand bed and used that. Still not the best pics, but it takes the blue out

i use the old drews doser. They were a super cheap buy from a friend so I got them:) when they die on me I will probably upgrade the the BRS 1.1 mL dozers. Been thinking of even using there 50mL doser for auto water changes.Well not sure I need the fancy one when I can go the middle one and save 200 bucks I knew ORP wasn't something I have heard before
what dosing pumps do you use and run through the apex?
My calcium stays at 540 and I don't dose no matter what it stays there. I check it with 2 checkers and its correct. But my tank is loving it and things are growing amazing inside there
A lot of salts out there will keep your Calcium at a nice level.
Having high calcium is not a bad thing in my opinion. The one to worry about is alk. If that gets to high bad things happen.

ORP is a super fancy thing ha. It's way over my head in the world of reefing but I believe that it measures dissolved organics in the water. Like if a fish died, your ORP would start to go up as fish decomposes. It's just another thing to monitor haha. Thanks this is what I was wondering I'm drawing blank what is ORP?
I don't care about salinity I like my digital reader so don't care about that stuff.
One thing I do like is the DOS is for water changes just put a bucket down let it drain into and have it do water changes for me. Then again my water changes take me 15 mins to do every 2 weeks so that works ok.. I know its good for dosing but I'm leaning away from that now I like dosing myself so easy and lets me interact and check on things.
The DOS unit is a little spend for dosing in my opinion. If you have the time to hand dose then that would be he best route because you know exactly what's going on in the tank. I use these super cheep dosing pumps I bought off a fellow reefer on here. I run them through the apex with zero fear. The apex doses every half hour so it's nice and steady for my SPS all day long. I don't worry about over doing because if my calcium going up to much not to much happens, it just goes high and can irritate coral. For example the calcium in my dads tank naturally sits at 600 ppm(been established 10 years) and everything is super happy and healthy. I also don't worry to much about my alk because I dose soda ash which causes the pH to increase. So if for some reason it got stuck on, my pH would climb up and my back up safety feature would cut power off at 8.45 pH. Ive got safety feature on top of safety feature. Along with the apex texting me when the pH increases.
Anyways long story short, dosing is super easy with the apex. I would recommend the middle unit because if you get the jr you will be wanting to upgrade soon and for example, the 8 bars are $150.
