My goto heaters have been; Eheim JAGER Aquarium Heater.

BRS is not the cheapest place to get them.  I just checked, BRS has 100W for $27, amazon has it for $20.

  2. Hi everyone

I am having a terrible time trying to bring my nitrates down. I have a 75 gal tank with a 10 gal sump. Typically I do a 5-10 gal water change every week or 2 and unfortunately wasn't regularly testing since everything seemed fine, corals were going and fish seemed happy. Early September I got a little behind on water chnages due to some health issues and noticed red cyano started growing. Started back on weekly water changes but the cyano has taken over. Last week had a water test and nitrates were off the chart. Dosed some chemi clean two days later did a 50% water change and everything looked good... for one day. Cyano  was back in full force over night and nitrates were still off the charts. Last night I did a second dose of chemi clean and testing. Salinity is at 1.24, ph is 8.6, alk is 11.1... nitrates still off the charts, deep deep pink color

I also pulled the tank apart last night looking for anything decaying everyone is accounted for. I noticed the pencil urchin is dropping spines, I'm not sure what it's status is but I think it's died since it was in the same place as last night and spines are starting to go.... not sure 100 though...

Anyone have advice on how to bring nitrates down? Just keep doing the big water changes and patiences?

  3. Light for sale, $180, is in excellent condition I just recently upgraded lights. It was used in my smaller tank for less than a year. I also have the mounting arm, $75, if interested or I can separate the pieces

  4. Wow! So many cool corals! I am Interested in the caulastrea furcata candy cane w/ 8 heads or the favia dragon soul if they aren’t claimed. Depending where you’re located I could come by potentially tomorrow afternoon/ evening or anytime throughout next week. My cell is feel free to text me.

  5. All black widow BTA are pending

    6 rainbow bta left

I have black widow and bubble tips BTA for sale. Rainbows are $30 and black widow $80 (OBOs). I would consider a trade if anyone is interested. I feel the price is fair but if you think I’m off just let me know. I’m not setup to ship, I am located in SE Portland.

  6. I love this forum because I learn something new every time I log on and I appreciate all the help I’ve gotten from members. Only had my tank and been in the hobby about two years without any prior knowledge. Moving across the country with my little clown, Nemo, was tough but I believe thanks to this forum the inhabitants, including Nemo’s boyfriend, Baby Neem, are thriving! I will have to nominate @pdxmonkeyboy as a co- winner, never met but i like the insight shared on posts.

I have a Red Sea emax 260 I'm looking to sell soon-ish as I build out a bigger tank. 69g tank with stand and sump, new plumbing and screen top, and 2 built in power heads. $400.

Hey half 👩‍🚀 any chance you have a pic of the 69gal and dimensions? How big of a tank are you building?? Would love to someday get into building but don’t have the time or knowledge yet!

I’d take a rose. The what’s the price for a rose and just out of curiosity, what’s the price on the black widow?

Hey! I’m sorry, I’m trying to be more active but often miss posts. I have a couple of smaller ones I thought were rose, I did some research and I’m thinking they might be actually be rainbow BTA. I have a couple of them that are 2”, does $30 a piece seem reasonable? I have a the 4ish”(maybe slightly larger when “blooming”) black widow BTA I would like to sell for $100. Ive never sold anything from my tank so I’m not sure how to figure out how much thing are worth (other than Google and the prices seem outrageously high)

I always had success transitioning Lionfish from live foods to freshly peeled raw shrimp chunks. You need to get the Lionfish comfortable eating in front of you and eating regularly first.

I would buy medium sized raw shrimp with the shells on and then I would peel the shell off right before feeding appropriate sized chunks of shrimp. After I got them eating the shrimp they would then eat anything and everything I offered to them. I only used the raw shrimp with the shells during the transition. I had several over the years and this worked every single time.

Thank you!! We’re you feeding using metal tongs? Trying to figure out the best tool. Right now I have short wooden ones, I am wondering if it is still scared of me/ seeing my hand in the tank. I noticed at the store today they were feeding an eel with long metal tongs. I’m going to give the shrimp a try as well. Thank you, much appreciated!

I would try to switch to dry/wet food. I don't have a lion yet but when I do id use dried mysis and let it soak in rodi and add some garlic oil( i use the minced garlic and just take the oil thats at the bottom) i also make my own diy cubes and have added that and my fish go crazy for it. My next batch ill also add the multi vitamin stuff in a bottle . If i had a fish that doesn't want to eat, that's its problem if im providing for it lol thats how I look at it anyway.sweet fish btw I want to get one also.

Thanks! Sweet, I have some dried shrimp I’ll try your technique in a few days. Thank you!!

  11. Update - looks like it a false alarm, the BTA is returning to normal. I think I over compensated and over fed the nem. The “puke” is gone and BTA is inflated! Who knew 😅

Anyone?? I have two black widow bta in the tank. Fed earlier today as I believed one of them was shedding its tentacles, now it looks like it’s puking. Should I pull this out of the tank? Any advice welcomed! I am very worried!
