  1. Just out of curiosity why are you leaving the sand behind? The sand is a part of your biofilter. If it were me, and I have done this a few times before, I would transfer everything, sand, water, rock and livestock. Make up the difference in fresh saltwater and cycled live rock. In this way you should have essentially no mini cycle and likely no loss.
What I have been reading is that the sand is a nitrate trap and will cause issues. If thats not the truth, I would prefer to keep it.

  2. Won the 20 gal waterbox cube at CFC. Plan is to upgrade my 10 gal reef tank. I have two small clowns, neon goby, yellow watchman goby, and cuc. 10 lbs of rock with soft and lps coral. 10 lbs of sand, the plan is to leave the sand behind. So a few questions.

    1. Buy live or dry sand for new tank?

    2. Then adding more rock. Cured live or dry artificial rock?

    3. Any other advice to make this easy with little to no death.

  3. I also wanted to say thanks everyone for being so chill and good sports. I know it sucks to miss out but there’s nothing more demoralizing when you’re giving your time and effort and practically giving away corals and to hear someone complain. Every time I do these I learn a little bit more!
It was a ton of fun. A special thanks to you and Jeff. [emoji223][emoji223][emoji223]

  5. Guess I should introduce myself, as I have been jumping on all those group buys from CFC.

I have done freshwater off and on my entire life. Currently have a planted community tank, a CRS Shrimp tank and a freshwater puffer tank. Saltwater was always that big scary system. But I wanted a challange, so I started a 10 gallon nano.

Now I'm on to a 29 biocube and already thinking about a third.

I live in Battle Ground and work in Portland as a Nurse. Looking forward to sunday at CFC and attending meetings to learn from the experts.c40d06e58d2454e766eff9632def3958.jpge1b1c29562909d0c81d4bb44afe0abc1.jpg

  6. I hope your are kidding . [emoji16] Here’s a little tip. I do have a regular job during the day so it would be highly unlikely that I would post anything past the midnight hour.
Nightshift Nurse, just played cards all shift. Haha
