Wouldn't a properly set up CaRx pretty much negate the need for alk monitoring?

I've heard nothing but good things about AGE. You do have to order through a dealer though.

1. Lay it all out on a piece of cardboard the same size as the bottom of your tank.

 

2. Spend a few hours/days perfecting the "ideal" aquascape.

 

3. Last step is to actually use only a third of the rock you intended on using in step 2.

Third time I've tried to get a 20l at the Albany Petco, they never have them! Got the last one from Corvallis though.

Petco dollar sale going on until the 28th of this month cant beat it for the price.

That Fossa/Nilsen book takes me back. I had volume one when I started my first reef. That book was like my bible. The tank was a 10g Clear for Life tall cube. The guy that sold it to me had me set it up with a Jaubert plenum under the sand. The light was a Custom Sealife power compact, it had a 23w 6500K quad bulb with a 9w "actinic". He sold me a Rio 180 I think for water movement. Memories...

I'd suggest that you calibrate your test kit or at least have someone else test your water. You might have a bad test kit.

If your LFS doesn't have them, both BRS and Marine Depot should. Phoenix 14000K is a nice bulb in DE, the 250w is very similar to an SE 250w Radium.

ATI 6x24w would be a good fit if you are looking for spread and coverage. You can usually find them under $300 used for a pretty clean unit.

Can't you just run less pellets?

I put frosted privacy film on a tank I ran last year. It looks nice, I would do it again if I set up another tank that had a clear back. If I remember right ADA had some tanks with the option of frosted rear panels.

Xmas, does the hydro date apply if exchanging at Air Gas etc?

Most places don't care about hydro if the tank is from their shop. If you bring in your own tank and it's out of hydro they will charge you for the hydro in my experience.

Hydroponic shops usually have them for pretty cheap. If you're buying one from a private party, make sure that the hydro date is recent, or you won't be able to get it refilled.

I second swapping out your sump. You'll be hating life if it shows up in your DT.

 

Edit: If your tank is glass, that center support is doing nothing for supporting the tank, it's more of something for the doors to close against. If you're still spooked on taking the brace out to swap out the sump, you can drain your tank way down and do it then. I have a bunch of 5g jugs you can borrow if you need to.

Those DIY tubing holders are genius!

I'm thinking of either of those tanks also. I need to overflow on the 2' end instead of it centered on the 4' side. I wonder if they would move it.

They do custom work, so I don't think moving the overflow on one of their standard tanks would be a big deal. I'm pretty sure that the tanks are built in China, so anything custom will take a bit longer to get to you, like two months. Shoot him an email.

Where is their warehouse?

It's in southern California, but the pricing on the website includes shipping. Pretty sure he will go lower than the posted pricing and cover shipping though. I'm thinking of getting the 120g or maybe the 150g.

Check these out, I have the 66g, they are very nice for the price. I picked mine up at their warehouse and got an incredibly good price. You may be able to haggle a bit with the price he has posted.
