I'm going DIY on a lot of the things that I can, so it'll be extra fun and cheaper when possible ;P

 

And I wouldn't say I'm super wealthy, buuut, it would take a good down 5k dollars or so. I might, just might consider dropping it to an 800 gallon, but that wouldn't be all that much cheaper.

 

I intend to keep 3 sharks, 1-2 eels, a harlequin tusk, dragon wrasse, and a sharksucker (echeneis naucrates/neucratoides) in the 1k gallon. I'm planning on some abalone, a queen conch (which can in fact be found for sale), and milky conch, and a huge bunch of nerite snails for my initial cleanup crew.

 

But I am a little offended. Does one have to be super rich to start their dream tank? I mean I'd understand if it was above, say, 2,000 gallons, but a 1k gallon wouldn't be all that expensive if you have 5-10k dollars set aside that you're willing to spend on your ONLY hobby. I guess it's bad money management on my part, but I'm frugal everywhere else, so sue me haha.

 

Anyway, I am willing to solicit help in the form of chaeto, snails, and other things people are willing to give away!

I would never tell you not to follow your dream tank buy all means go for it and if I can I would love to help but a 1000g tank for 5-10k is is a very low price I probably got 10k in my 200g and it is good quality equipment but not highend by want means. But please buy all means prove me wrong so I can copy your build!!!!!!!????

 

And yes mine is a sps/fish dominant mixed reef lol

As far as I know there is only one kind of sand sifting starfish.

I have three in my 200 for the last year they great. Also have a blue and a orange linkia. I think you would be fine with one for a long time and if your sand is looking to clean just up your feeding the fish won't mind lol

I got lots (small,medium,large) but I got this rock to if you want a bunch of palys to.

 

Your in that weird middle area not a small easy to clean tank but just big enough that cleaning from the out side is going to suck. Advice to you is either stay under 200 gallons or go big enough that you have to scuba dive be I advice to you is either stay under 200 gallons or go big enough that you have to scuba dive to clean it. ????????????
