  1. Well. That sucks but it's usually much easier to diagnose with tons more info. All levels. Tank info. Fish info. People here can dial it in quick once you give the info. For instance that 5g could be way too much or way not enough depending on the tank.

    The Kh is 8.6

    Ph is 8.3

    Calc is 400

    Mag is 1275

    Phos .03

    Ammonia 0

    Nitrite .03

    Nitrate .00

50 gallon cube with 13 gallon sump 30lbs live sand 40 lbs live rock running carbon and gfo

    Skimmer reef octopus 110

    Small refugium

  2. It's been a long sad haul!

I've had 5 fish die 1 anemone, snails and crabs. Also have another anemone in the process of dieing.

The only new thing I started was dosing. My levels were low Kh around 7.8 ph around 7.8 and calcium around 350. The levels are all correct but am fighting many things including cyano, fish death and am really nervous I might be getting the dreaded tank crash.

I had my skimmer die on me a week ago so I ordered a new reef octopus 6 inch 110 skimmer and it's still being dialed in. I'm changing water 5 gallons every other day. Wondering if anyone has any information or advice. For now it's just be patient and continue with the routine...

    AAAARREGGGG!!!!

  3. I forgot to ask about your adjustment, you never mentioned what you bumped your Alk and Ph to and how.

How did you raise the Alk? To what level? Over what time period?

I started using some dosing Chem from Red Sea the 2 part solution calcium and alk. Raised it over 2 days from 7.8 ph to 8.4 and Kh from 7.8 to 8.6

  4. I've had 2 anemones in this tank now for over a year. One anemone seems happy and living and the other anemone decided to detach and floating around. I recently did a bit of chemistry change but not much my Kh was around 7.3 and my ph was low as well at 7.8 I raised then and started noticing the second nem in a bit of trouble. Any advice would be great.

The other anemone floated to the back and isn't attached but still has color.

    Any advice?

Also tried feeding both of them they hold the food and seem to take it but can't seem to figure out what's wrong. For now just giving it time.

  5. I'm recently new to the tank controller stuff. Purchased an Apex junior and right off the bat purchased the Ph probe and controller. I am just hoping it will help eliminate disasters as well as automate will post my experiences as I use it more. Already considering an eb8 because I want more CONTROL! Muahahaha!!

Right now it's controlling the fuge light return pump skimmer and and the heater, I have left the main tank light to control, and the power heads, as well as my auto top off.

I love the feed features really helps to not go unplugging things. And I love the control of the light. Soon to be a kessil to have more control as well.

  6. Are you doing a calcium reactor? And I'm so new to dosing I only know how to mix it and add it all at once. Any advice or links?

The butterfly sure cleared out all my aiptasia it was amazing! But he died as well. Poopy! But I'm restoring life to the tank! Soon I hope it starts to clear everything up!

  7. As I have suffered a couple of fish deaths and water Params being poor I've become diligent in getting my reef to look like a reef again. As of now I have a cyano outbreak and am doing my best to keep water Params up.

Lost a copper banded butterfly, a wrasse and a diamond yellow goby, I've also not seen any snails moving about but I dug them all up and they react to me getting close to them but they're "dorment"

Also will be building a new aquarium stand as I am too nervous to drill into my current stand but would love to clean up the wires and add possibly a dosing kit or a calcium reactor.

Made a pretty big leap and purchased an apex, got it finished installing today it works really well. It's the apex Jr but was easier to convince the wife that price tag over the 800 for the gold kit. So it's all a start.

I went to Jeff a couple weeks ago and had my water tested and my alk was really low. I slowly ha e brought it up but everything seems a little stunned, I've started a 5 gallon to 10 gallon WC every other day, until I see some results.

Also began dosing a bit of alk and calcium 2 part mix. Manually for now hopefully get a doser but needed to start getting the Params in check.

Any advice on helping my system?

Today starts the revival of Corey's 50 gallon cube reef.

I have a ton of Zoas and LPS and 3 big anemones a couple of small birds nest but the rest of my sps is gone.

Will post pictures of all tonight

  9. Is this the SCA? My old one did that, clean it completely and it should quiet down. If it doesn't, look on eBay for the replacement pump, the Atman's are cheap.

Im letting it Soak in some vinegar water then I'll dismantle and clean it real nice like!

Thanks for the info and if its still loud im glad those pumps are cheap

  10. Hey guys

Been lurking around lately but haven't been to active.

My Skimmer has suddenly become abnormally loud. Should a soak in some vinegar water help? Or is it time for new?

  11. Hey guys been a great while haven't been to involved in the tank. Been working a ton. If any of you know the place Cinetopia at Progress Ridge I bartend. You'll have to come say hi.

But updates, lost 2 of my anthias. No idea where they went. Also have had my Zoas growing like crazy going to do some fragging here soon looking to get some more anthias and possibly a butterfly fish. I have a heck of a aiptasia problem. Been going on for about 5 months untreated just getting tire of it. I tried peppermint shrimp but they all died off in a month or two. Expensive temporary fix so I thought a butterfly might be better any advice or cautions I've heard they munch on corals but unsure what corals they eat?

Also had a nem split this morning so I have an anemone I can sell its green under light but when it's out its kinda brown. Willing to trade ;)

  12. So I've had aiptasia for about a year and have tried peppermint shrimp and a filefish.

Peppermint so bought 6 they lasted about 3 months all each passing away and only finding caucuses they were the best because they only ate aiptasia ps I can't figure out why I can't keep shrimps very long assume I have a hitchhiker

I tried the filefish which he was amazing with aiptasia but also loved my Zoas which I would like to avoid again.

I've been considering the butterfly fish. Wondering if you guys have any experience with them in a reef aquarium?

They're extremely unsightly and filling my sump they're so big! Whatcha guys think?

  13. BRS Dual Reactor complete with MJ1200 it was used for maybe a week but I decided against it because it doesn't fit under my tank. I paid 89 with the mj1200 I'd take 60 for it all. Let me know!
