  1. I would say no. With an sps tank you either want to go bare bottom with lots of flow, or aragonite substrate with lots of flow. You never know what you're getting with play sand, but I would guess lots of phosphate and absolutely no buffering capacity.

  2. I've lost a couple of clams in the past and Higher Thinking has it right. It may or may not be light but once a clam starts to decline they go fast and once they start to go the inhabitants of the system can smell it. While may cratures we keep will ignore a healthy clam, once they start to decline, they instantly look like some kind of ice cream treat that cannot be resisted and a clam can be consumed in very short order.

    Sorry for your loss.

  3. Thanks guys, I've been looking at the Sicce 1.5 and the 2.0 as well as the Eheim compact 2000. I like my Eheim 1262 returns that I have on the 90 gal and the frag tank.

The new 30 gal cube has a single top center overflow with a 1" return. I think the overflow will handle either one of these pumps.

The Sicce 1.5 will push 258 gph at 3' of head, which is about what this tank will require, the 2.0 will push 423 gph, while the Eheim 2000 is adjustable between 265 & 528 at 0 head. I haven't been able to fine a graph that shows head loss for the Eheim.

Either way I'll add a valve upstream from the pump to fine tune the flow and to shut down the flow for pump maintenance.

  4. I'm starting a 30 gal cube build. The stand is small because of footprint of the tank so space is a consideration. the sump will be have a footprint around 14 x 17. I'm looking for recommendations on a return pump that isn't huge but will still give me good flow. Thanks for looking.

  5. It's use to be a 20 dollar gift. is that still the deal?

We don't want people to be put off by the price. It's really what ever you feel comfortable with. This is less about what its's worth than the fun of the exchange. I can remember things like frags, aquarium tongs, a small bird cage, even Roy and his Justin Bieber toothbrush.

Just try to give something that you would enjoy getting.

  6. This years Christmas party we have decided to bring back the White Elephant gift exchange. This has been a lot of fun in past years and we have decided to bring it back.

If you would like to participate, this is how it works:

Bring a wrapped gift, nothing to expensive, maybe something you have laying around the house that still has some value, and place it on the white elephant table at the Christmas party.

Gifts do not have to be aquarium related.

Each person participating will get a ticket.

Tickets will be called one at a time.

If your ticket is the first to be called you will be allowed to choose one wrapped gift from the table.

Each ticket after that will have a chance to either choose a gift from the table, or, you can choose to take a gift from a previous winner. Then that person will choose another gift from the table.

This will continue until all the tickets are called and all the gifts are claimed.

This has been tons of fun in past years with some items being passed around until the very end and some, well not so much.

  7. Definitely not a feather duster. It will slowly carve a ridge through the surface of the coral. Not sure if its really harmful but when I found one I removed it.

  8. Wow, sorry you feel that way. But calling the leadership dictators seems a bit harsh. I would call it proactive. A lot of thought and even more work has gone into this. Many features have been enhanced and some are new. Like anything new, it will take some getting used to and you will have to retrain your muscle memory to get where you want to go, with a click here, and a click there, it will all become second nature with a little time and practice.

  9. I'm using two over my 48" frag tank. They are good lights for the money, a little intense, and a little short on programmability. If you want true ramp up/ramp down capability check out Reefstsr alpha series. Better color and better programmability.

  10. Ok, Up for sale is my 48" Current Outer Orbit lighting fixture. It has 2 250w HQI Halides, 4 54w T-5 HO's 18 led night lights, 9 blue and 9 white.

I bought this from Nate a couple of years ago. It's a great fixture but I have upgraded to a Reefstar Alpha 48" LED.

It can hang using the included wires of sit on the rim of the tank using the included legs.

    Looking for $200.00

  11. Probably has nothing to do with it. It's just nature doing what nature does. While both wrasses and peppermint shrimp are both reef safe by themselves, they aren't always compatible with each other. Most larger wrasses are not compatible with ornamental shrimp. Wrasses will just kill them. That's just what they do. Sorry about that. I had a cleaner with mine for a long time. I got the fairy when it was small and the cleaner was already there. But when the wrasse grew up, probably full grown now at around 4"+, one day the cleaner was just gone.

I've never been able to keep peppermints in the reef. I think it's probably because the wrasse was already there and established. The peppermints never stood a chance.
