  1. Not sure how to include pictures using attachments' date=' but I personally prefer to just upload the image(s) to imgur.com or some other image hosting site and link there with the [[b'][/b]IMG] and [/IMG] commands.

Those are both fine recommendations, though I don't really care for Flickr too much cause they don't deal with zooming on mobile very well.

I never noticed the zooming issue. Seems to do fine on my Samsung S5.

  2. You need to either upload them to the forum site or us an oIff-site housing site like photobucket or Flickr.

I prefer Flickr because it's free of annoying ads and they give you a gig of free storage, plus it stores full res photos. Then you copy the bbc code and paste it in your post.

  3. I don't understand why everyone is so upset about the lost threads? This is a forum' date=' just start new topics and get back to where you left off. No data was lost just a bunch of threads which were already talked about and moved on. We didn't loose any valuable information. Not a while lot has changed since 2012 but the equipment we use. Who care what your post count was, that's not what this is about. Let's just puck up and go.[/quote']

The ability to search the site via topics has taken a big hit. Equipment isn't the only thing that has changed in the last two years. Disease treatment and prevention, coral dips, equipment reviews, and sometimes just good memories that can be relived by paging through old threads.

How many questions will be asked again that were asked and answered, those answers lost. There was a wealth of information and knowledge lost, Yea, most of us have all the old pics stored on our local hard drives and could rebuild the tank threads, the show off threads, etc. but the time invested is immense when you think about. Most of us are busy with daily life and don't have time to devote countless hours of time to rebuild these things.

Those that did spend many hours recovering what was recoverable should be thanked. I know what its like to try to recover from huge data loss. Been there done that back when I worked in aerospace in the '80's and '90's. Back then it entailed a lot of manual threading of magnetic tape drives.

So yea, its kind of a big deal.

  4. Sorry that people lost perspective on what is important in life. After all this is a fish forum not the library of all knowledge of man up to this moment.

As someone who has worked in IT off an on since the early '80's, yea when backups were completed on magnetic tape drives that you had to thread like the old reel to reels, I can only say WOW. To not have any kind of backup or disaster recovery plan just seems weird. But like I said, this is not life saving or threatening stuff.

People really need to get over themselves and get on with things.

Thanks for what you did save.

People could have handled themselves better, ALL of them , but lets move on and get back to the reason we're all here.

  5. Wow, there's an hour of my life I'll never get back. At least I got miles to come over and frag some acans for me today.

Oh yea, why is it that Kim always has to get in the middle of things and stir sh!t up. Hey Kim, you don't have a tank any more. You aren't in the hobby any more. Take your drama and go away.

  6. I target feed mine Mysis shrimp. I use a large bore syringe and squirt some at a leg. That usually gets it to extend more legs. Then just squirt a little at each leg. Its kind of cool to watch the legs move the food like a conveyor belt.

  7. Honestly, your probably better off not having an angel if you want to have a reef. Some people skate by with no issues, but they tend to be mean and also pick on corals occasionally. In my opinion it's easier to get them out and leave them out then try to get them out of an established reef tank (without messing up your corals and being generally pissed lol)

Strange that your flame hawk is being mean like that. Mine was always docile, but was chased and tormented by my clowns. They each have their own personality so sometimes it's hit and miss with some fish.

The Flame Hawk was not the one being mean. It was the Coral Beauty that was the bully. The Hawk has always been the model citizen. Very personable and fun. The Angel would chase him around and tail slap him. I got the angel out last night and returned to LFS for credit. Going to wait a little while before putting any more fish in the tank. Hoping everyone will settle down and recover from the stress.

The Angel was really hard to catch. Took about an hour. Patience really is the key in all aspects of this hobby.

  8. Went home at lunch time and the star polyps were open and looking good.

Now I guess i have to take my Coral Beauty back to the LFS. Being a jerk to the other fish. My Flame Hawk is looking stressed and hiding, also chasing my Banggai Cardinal and Talbots.

  9. Hi everyone, I'm new to the hobby. I come upon a 55gal for a sweet deal and have it set up with about 50 lbs of rock and about 4 in of crushed coral as a substrate.

The cycle went fine and have added CUC a few fish and just a couple of corals. I have experienced the algae bloom and still have some hair on some of the rocks.

I do have a question. I vacuumed the substrate last night and this morning when I turned on the moonlight led my Flamehawk looked like he had been salted. I'm afraid it might be ich, but not sure. The same thing happened last time I disturbed the substrate but by the afternoon no "spots" were visible. The only other fish that shows this is my Coral Beauty, maybe because of the dark coloration on these two fish. Am I just being paranoid or is this something to be worried about?

I'm looking forward to getting to know some people around town that I can learn from and exchange information with. So far this is becoming a bit of an obsession. I just hope the stress level of being a beginner begins to subside.
