After taking her down to the lfs he saw some red marks on side and tail but that could have been caused by the carpet nems sting and the sting most likly was the final thing to kill her.he knew the original owner and said she was at least 5 yrs old. Most likly was because he stopped feeding the fish and the stress of being moved to a new system. We have decided that another tang will be the last fish we intro and not for at least 6 months. On another note what are some good recommendations for very active fish similiar to tangs personality that are peaceful and semi reef safe incase I decide to turn it into a reef down the road?

She died about 20 mins later after posting this. PLEASE NO TANG POLICE! I realize a 10gal is too small for a tang but when a fish is not swimming any size tank so treatment can be made will work. I have inspected her and it looks like it was some sort of fin rot. tail and front fins were turning clear and rotting along with washed color. I am quite upset and feel horrible my wife keeps telling me its not my fault, we have only had her since Saturday. I waited a month for the guy to finish selling off the coral and rock to get her. when i showed up i brought a 5 gal bucket to transport and he had already caught her and stuck her in a 1 gal ziplock, she was pissed and had poked holes in it. We had decided to buy her as I was under the assumption that a very large adult should be pretty hardy as i have seen alot of 50 cent size tangs not make it in the pet stores. All other fish in the tank are always hungry and always out and look great, water parameters are all great with the exception of 2 small patches of cyano in the back corners from low flow, which i had ordered 2 more powerheads that are showing up today. I even kept the lights out for 2 days after we got her and did a 30 min drip from my sump to bucket before placing her in the tank. We have decided not to purchase any more fish for now and let the tank mature for 6 months. I hope to gain some experiance from this so it never happens again. thanks

Im looking for some advice for a new fish I picked up from a tank tear down. Shes a very large blue tang. I put her in my 150 with 4 chromis and a mated pair of tomato clowns, and 2 cleaner shrimp. she hid in the rocks for the first 2 days. then came out a bit and was eating with the other fish. 2 days ago i noticed she was back in the rocks and i saw the cleaner shrimp on her a little here and there. this mornin when i got up she was fluttering at the top got sucked to the side of the powerhead once and got her tail stung by my large carpet nem. at that point i netted her and placed her in my 20gal frag tank. Im in the process of setting up a 10gal QT tank as i type. her color is washed out and her tail has what kinda looks like fin rot, after reading about differant diesese HLLE and hole in head seem like the closest to her symptoms. can anyone give me some rock solid advice for a treament. she had become my kids favorite fish. the person I got her from was in a 210 that had 3 clowns a purple tang and 7 fire fish. he had her for over 2 yrs. i do know he had stopped feeding as much towards the end of his tear down. my buddie bought the purple tang and while its hiding he was able to hand feed it the other day. thanks (scratch)

Well have this large skimmer minus the gen-x pump. its about 25" tall and 6" diameter. has a small crack at bottom that was repaired. I use its little brother and it skims well. have no use for this so looking for 50.00 or trade for something i could use. larger Koralias, ATO, larger sump for my 150,. the skimmer uses a gen-x 4100 pump, i saw Jeffsme was selling one recently so whoever picked it up heres a matcing skimmer for it! LOL. prefer not to ship as its large but willing to as i do have some large fish shipping boxes. I also have a nano cube 28 HQI hood minus the MH ballast. if somone is into replacing the ballast or gutting for a LED retro. hood comes with 15k 150w bulb 2x18w actinic pc and moon lights. make offer 10 gal acrylic cut corner front with black back and base, tanks drilled with upper left drain and upper right return-20.00 homemade glass 20gal refugium/sump-20.00 this was a QT/holding tank i tore down. 20gal high tank-15.00 10gal black back with hood-10.00 5.5 gal black back -5.00 20gal long new but back glass cracked was siliconed good for terrium-10.00 29gal with furniture grade oak stand and canopy, will fit 20L,29 or 37 gallon tanks-80.00

Bummer your so far away. I have an acrylic bulnosed 10 gal I just took down. Overflow in upper left corner and return in upper right. 20.00 And 20gal glass sump/fuge 20.00. If your coming over anytime soon to central oregon hit me up

Thanks bud. Ill open it up tonite after lights out to confirm. I have used a lot of the workhorse ballast in the past but just got back into this hobby so T5s are new to me. I figured they would be fine as its still a flourescent bulb. Wish they had 72" T5s!

So here's my problem. Bought a tank with dual 400 mh and 2x72" vhos on it. Don't want to run the MH as its starting out as a FOWLR tank. The vhos are ok but was thinking of switching over to T5s down the road. The ballast is a PFO EL 2-2. From the limited info I could find(most real old RC posts) its supposed to have 2 workhorse 7 ballast in it. That being said could I rewire it to run T5s. Some say yes and some say no. I was under the impression that T5s can be run off of a PC ballast and workhorse ballast run them. Want a solid answer before buying all the bulbs and endcaps.

are you only wanting acrylic? i have an extra 20gal viaaqua tank looks like a nano cube with rounded corners and all. it 20x13.5x20 and i have a 250w HQI MH with a 20k bulb electronic ballast and light is in a 24" pendant. i was going to tear down my 10gal acrylic frag tank that is drilled with upper corner overflow and return and use this but that a ways off still. let me know if you have any interest, text me for a pic 541-280-7817

How quiet are the blue line pumps VS the genx? I have genx 40 and a 30 and they produce quite the hum. I've tried to bolt them down with felt pads underneath and they actually make more noise. Thanks

Well after a long day and exhausting night of cleaning and unloading we got it set up in its new home. I am going to have to finish staining the doors on the stand and the whole hood. And reconfigure my lighting. He was running 2x400w MH and 2 VHO bulbs 1 actinic and 1 10k. Some of the rock pieces are huge tables that should look good. Go go RODI need lots of water.its hard to believe but for 8 months this thing sat with water in tank but no heat and no movement whatever and the walls and rock were covered with what looked like limpits but huge ones and tons of bristtle worms in the sand.there was also some real gross black sheet algae growing on the back wall.

So my wife said move the thermostat. I was able to move it over far enough with out having to cut in to the drywall. So I'm going to give this tank a try. Thanks for helpin me make up my mind

So i setup a new nano on our breakfast bar between the kitchen and dining room. I decided i wanted to see it from both areas so made an AIO tank with a center strip of rock. I have a 150w HQI with 14k Pheonix bulb over it, and the water flow is handled by a MJ900 in the filter and a koralia 425 for added flow in the display. DIY screened top to keep my jawfish and clown in there and keep little hands out. The filter area has 3 chambers, 1st i made a DIY media rack out of egg crate just run carbon in here. 2nd chamber is my cheato area lit by 2x1watt submersible LEDs on a reverse cycle, 3rd chamber holds return pump , heater and temp probe. So far it has been a great setup and pretty much trouble free. heres a few pics upgrades in the works will be a ATO and might switch over to LEDs when i can affoard it

going to go pick up my buddies tank this weekend in mcminnville and live in central oregon. just thought i would throw this out and see if i got any bites. Im planning on just doing a FOWLR and like the 150 but have only 1 place to put it and it requires that i move my thermostat over about a foot. dont really want to so thought i would look for a 4' tank. the tank im picking up is a glass NON drilled tank with furniture grade cherry stand and canopy. has 2 400watt MH with VHOs for lighting. pretty sure it has dual overflow boxes with a nice big sump. will be going on Saturday and doing a 1 day turn around so will have pics and be in the Mac/Salem area if anyone is interested. I'd prefer a glass tank but will consider otheres. if somone wants to see the tank gimme a call and we can make some sort of meeting area. thanks Aaron 541-280-7817
