What carbon are you using? If you are putting it in a bag yourself, try using the pellet type carbons, they tend to not be as dust crazy as the ground up crap. A good rinse is always in order before adding though

Hey all,

So my sump on my 90 gallon has a built in skimmer. Pretty basic, just an acrylic tube about 5-6" diameter with the pump tapped into the side (open bottom). It has 1/2" threads on it. Currently it has an Eco 633 on it. Overall, not a great skimmer pump in my opinion. It seems to create foam, but doesn't really travel up into the collection chamber enough. I'm not exactly sure where the 90 degree elbo that the pump blows into the chamber should be pointing. I curently have it aimed slightly upward (?), it creates a swirl motion. The skimmer cup doesn't really produce a ton of skimmate, I only empty it (not full) about once every 1-2 weeks. My little CPR bakpak on my 30 gallon fills it's cup practically brimmed every week (scratch).

What should I do? Is this an adjustment of the first chambers water level, the skimmer elbo direction, or is it time for a better pump (scary) (needle wheel or something?).

Nice looking tank and good start! Keep an eye on the emerald crab...mine always end up being up to no good and get banished to the sump lol!

Are they 18k white or a mix of blues and whites? How many of each color?

Have any pics of the 18k LED's over a tank? Would like to get an idea of the color they put out (color temps seem very subjective person to person).

I might take you up on the neon green candy canes...

 

Do you have pictures posted?

I have several colonies of the neon green varying in size from about 8 to 15 heads. Here's a pic that shows a few of them and you can see the two large teal colonies as well (they make almost a full dome).

Still wondering which Ecoxotic PAR38 you bought?

Digging the color your getting from the Ecoxotic PAR38 on your QT, is this the one with the Red leds also? Nice setup!

I've got a HUGE toadstool. Has green tips but not tyree. It's about the size of a dinner plate when open and has a large base. I'll post pics later if your interested.

Looking for a 700ish or less wavemaker, preferably in the 400-500 gph range. I have lots of zoa frags (pogs, eagle eyes, fire and ice, tubbs, etc) and other things for trade if I find the right one. Don't really want to drive too far, so hopefully someone has one decently close :p

Yeah, just send me a PM on here and you can swing by this weekend or something if your tank is ready for some coral. Mushrooms grow extremely easily and multiply fast, so I have tons. I'll give you some red, green, and blue ones. I'll try to get some wrangled up for you to take.

There are a few people on here from Vancouver, everyone is really cool, so take any opportunity to check out others tanks when you can.

Thats really odd, I have him check my water all the time to compare. Has never onced questioned it. Was it Cos or someone he had working in there? Maybe im the lucky one. Feel like im the OIAB advocate here, but I have had good experiences there. Theres people that swear for that place across the river. Personally he will never get another dime of my money. I will always give a place a second chance. Bad days happen. But they happened again and again.

 

Noobs, were all the lights out or just the open sign? I know that light is always off it seems. My 6 year old tells him every time we go in there.

Your not the only one, I've had nothing but good experiences with OIAB too. Esp with Cos, he gives you the best deals! I like buying local when I can, so I definately prefer to spend my dime with them over the rest.
