  1. Blue legged hermits have a 50-50 reputation for being bad per the forums across the nation.
  2. How big is your hermit crab? Do you know what kind it is? What color are its legs? Some types of hermits are aggressive to begin with. I have 4 orange legs, 5 zebra's and a halloween hermit who likes to hang upside down off of all my SPS including the birdsnest. I have had to kick them off some SPS that they were too curious about, they can do damage even if they are eating algae between the polyps and the branches. If you want to keep that hermit crab, try spot feeding the hermit- it might not be getting enough food which could lead to them munching on coral and eating the polyps.
  3. Nah, reefers don't count as tourists. They are researchers on sabatical who have aloha aina. Tourists are the people who stick their head in the water at the beach and start jumping around and screaming at the top of their lungs that there are fish in there!!!! Then they chase the turtles (who are endangered), step and stand all over the corals and forget to use sunscreen. (scary)
  4. Happy Anniversary!! She knew something was up. Why else would she check her Hawaiian Airlines account when a trip to Portland was planned? (scratch) If she really was mad, then it is good that it happened this way instead of going through security and a 5.5-6 hour fumming plane ride. She probably logged onto pnwmas and saw your threads. Kealakekua Bay, Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, Kua Bay and Kahaluu Beach are some of my favorites. Those and Hapuna are crowded sometimes and it feels really hot there right now, so it will be even more so. For a beautiful, clean beach without the crowds and with some shade- take a right on Kealakehe Parkway towards Honokohau Marina and Small Boat Harbor. Park your car in the parking lot farthest inland and take one of the two trails to the right and walk until you get to the white sand beach to the right of the harbor. It is a beautiful white sand beach in a protected cove; there is a pavilion and a canoe house but usually only one or two people there because it is not a marketed beach spot and tourists don't know about it.:p
  5. Sweet! Thank you everyone! (clap)
  6. I have a yellow tang who is just a big bully and I think I now hate him. (flame) Anyone have any experience catching a tang in their tank without having to take all the live rock out? I spent hours tonight trying to catch him and throw him in my sump; the little punk is getting kicked out and promptly delivered to my favorite LFS asap. (threaten)
  7. Always wanted one. I will take it if it is not sold. Thanks, Stefanie
  8. Here is my clown. It likes this xenia and defends, cleans and plays around in the branches. It totally ignores and has no interest in my anemone. (scratch)
  9. Hello All, I am searching for Hermit Crab Shells for my clean up crew and wondered if anyone had experience shopping for new houses for these criters & have any recommendations on where to buy? I have looked at all the websites I could find online but don't fully trust them enough to buy and put those shells into my tank. They sell painted shells and polished shells that I don't think were made for saltwater hermits. I am thinking these shells are made for those children who have pet hermits in a little plastic hamster box (not submerged). I am hoping to find a variety of shells from extremly tiny up to 3/4"; natural shells, round opening, and mother-of-pearl inside finish. Whenever one of my bigger hermits changes into a bigger shell, the rest of them 'upgrade' within two days to the next size up that becomes available and have done so twice now. Want to keep these little guys happy so they leave my favorite sand snails alone. (nono)
  10. Wow! What is it? (the orange one)
  11. When I use my Brute trash can, I use a pump to transfer the RO water into a 7 gallon jug so that I can easily carry it into my house without hurting myself. I then empty the jug into a 14 gallon tub next to my tank and do my mixing/cooking of the saltwater right there. When the saltwater is at the right temperature and salinity, I use a vacuum to drain my tank into the empty 7 gallon jug (that way I know exactly how much I took out of the tank); and then use the pump to transfer the new saltwater batch into my tank.
  12. TT's are fun, is it a manual or dsg? Have you tried the A3? I hope that they bring some diesel models soon that have Quattro. A3's are really spunky. I almost got one once but could not bring myself to be ok with the fact that at the time there were no A3's available with Quattro. The engineering on Audi is brilliant when you get into it all technically and they surely stick to the road don't they? (rock2) We want the RS4 Avant but they have not brought that model to the US yet. I want an Audi that I don't have to drive on I5; rock chips every day are painful to the soul! I loved them both, which is good and bad too. It would make me livid when people would damage it (door dings, fuel attendant issues, and hit & runs) + rocks and stuff flying off of cars on I-5; can be too stressful and takes the 'fun' right out of it. There is something to be said about having a daily driver that you don't care so much about. We sold our S4 and regret it to this day. If you like your TT, keep it. It is hard to buy another one that you don't know everything about or its history. The S4 we had was nagaro blue with the two-toned blue recaro seats etc. Have you ever heard the engine on one? It has a deep growl! It saved me when a deer jumped out in front of me once, all I had to do was look in my rear view mirror and slam the brakes. It's like all you have to worry about is the people behind you that can't stop at the rate you are going to. Does it seem to you that you have to use the cruise control a lot because it doesn't seem like you are driving fast, but your speedo says otherwise? Are you on the Audi forums? I also have a soft spot for the Alfa Romeo Brera, they keep saying that they will be coming back to the US- but who knows. They are temperamental and glitchy though which is a deterent for sure. I had a 159 but the dang thing was a constant headache and everything that could go wrong did so it got too expensive and irritating.
  13. I have had two Audi's (A4 sedan and S4 Avant). I have never had the expensive repair experience or any unreliability issues or stranding events. I think it is all about religious maintenance as with anything else (saltwater tanks); and getting the extended warranty. That way you have 7 years of no stress, no worries and no out of pocket expenses except tires, wipers and oil changes. I have always been able to sell my cars for full market value and never lost money ($15K when I sold the A4 and $43K for the S4); it is not a good idea to buy an Audi brand new or any car for that matter. I got my car loans for 3% APR for full retail value from Onpoint CU and Pentagon Federal CU. Insurance cost is average ($70/month). It is true that no one in the Eugene area will touch it if it is under dealer warranty. If it isn't under warranty, then Noah at Auto Doctor is a genius & knows his stuff and the only one I would go to. I talked to Audi once and they have no plans for a Eugene area dealership; they had tried that awhile back and it didn't work out. Safest driving and handling car I have ever owned. I am a car enthusiast, had Alfa, BMW M3, Honda, Dodge, Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes and nothing beats Audi in quality and safety handling and has gotten me out of very hairy situations on I-5. The only thing that has ever come close that I have found so far is a Honda Ridgeline....weird... I once had to get it towed to Sunset Beaverton (insurance covered it); and they were so nice they even offered to have their driver drive my rig back down to me for free. If you ever get a chance to drive one, it is a nice experience and you can tell that right away either as a passenger or the driver.
  14. YAY! Woot Woot! I give a hoot! LOVE AUDI! They make the best cars. Never had a safer, or more quality ride. They say Peugeot was in the running at the end, but had serious technical problems and dropped out.
  15. 1g R/O top off every day; 15g water change every week on my 75g tank/10g sump. Ammonia keeps rising to 0.25 by the 6th day; never had a sign of nitrite or nitrates yet. PH starts to drop about every second week and I add a PH buffer to correct.
  16. Hi there, Our best hopes and wishes to you and your family. If you need anything please let me know, my husband and I are in the area through Tuesday and heading back to Eugene Tuesday night. Best, Stefanie
  17. Hi Everyone, I wanted to thank you all for your generous offers and help. The fish was just picked up by the owner, and it was alive when it left and doing very well thanks to the submersible kitchen dish idea. WHEW! I used a stainless steel pasta strainer and found that the fish was suffering from acute ammonia toxicity. It could not tolerate any trace of ammonia in its water and was so stressed that it would foul seven gallons of freshly cooked saltwater in less than two hours, with spikes up to 0.25..... I did three water changes in its tub and a 20% water change on my tank before submersing the fish in it. Best, Stefanie
  18. Thank you both for your help and the tank offer, I will keep you posted.
  19. Hey there, I picked up a fish up from Portland yesterday for a friend and they have been unable to come and get it. Is there anyone in the Eugene area that would be able to house a Potter's Angelfish in a real tank? I floated him in my sump yesterday, moved him to a cooler last night after acclimating him and he is now in a tub but he really needs to go into a tank. I can't put him in mine because I have a flame angelfish. Please get back to me if you can take him, I feel so bad for this fish and he is really struggling. (scary) Thank you, Stefanie
  20. Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that Aqua Serene in Eugene, OR is having a sale on all of their salt. I stopped by today and saw Kent brand salt buckets for $51 each. Stefanie
  21. Hi, Can you send me details on the frag in picture number 7? Thank you, Stef
