  1. Thanks so much, you guys. I don't know what we would do without this forum. :)

Yeah, the trouble with only having done the nanos is that we don't really know how valuable the big tank stuff is. Like with that 65g, we didn't know if the chiller upped the value quite a bit... $900 still seemed like too much, esp. given the lighting, but I figure that's an easy enough upgrade if the price came down enough.

On that note, I read that the icecap 660 can drive 4x54w T5s, so we would basically need new bulbs and to make sure there are good reflectors, right? I'm staying hands off about decisions on this one, but I think G mostly cares about the fish right now (a yellow tang could do a 65g, right?), so I'm not worried about her trying to grow SPS in there... I told her I would build her an LED for that after I'm done practicing with my pico LED build, ha ha.

Anyway, thanks again!!! Very helpful info. We still might look at the 65g and see if they could come down in $. Otherwise we'll just be keeping our eyes open!

  2. ha ha, I'm patient... it's Gillian who isn't! (Also good that she doesn't have her own screen name to defend herself.) Anyway, I'm fine with the drive. I go up and back in the same day for Mariners games easily enough. I'm leaving this one up to Gillian anyway since I have taken over the small tanks. Oh yeah, and she makes all the $ while I'm in grad school. :)

and here is the full tank shot they sent, along with a bunch of other pics. Opinions?

  3. So there is a tank in Seattle that looks pretty promising. We're considering driving up Friday to take a look at it. However, in a couple of the pictures I noticed some small-ish clumps of what looks like aiptasia. Red flag? How hard is it to get rid of? It's an established tank with a considerable amount of livestock so we wouldn't want to just nuke everything.

While we're at it, are there any other red flags we should look for when looking at established tanks? Our tanks are nanos so we aren't as familiar with sumps & skimmers, etc.

    Thanks :)

  4. Nick at rose city has a nice used 90g on a nice black stand w/canopy ,internal overflow, pump, sump etc.

Patrick at salwater fantaseas has a new 90g (marked as a 75) standing on end behinda couple tanks..just bare tank. He also has a complete 75g system running with sand and rock.

Thanks for the tips. We'll be going on a little field trip later today to check them out.

    I knew it!!! lol

55g are usually easy to find but not really good as layout.

They are good for freshwater, but with all the rocks we use in reef tanks you will find it small soon. A 90g sounds much better if you can find one.

My best advice is to wait until you find the right size for your needs.

Awesome advice, thanks, Alex. I've been wondering if the 55 is too narrow since they're only like 12" wide... no wider than our nanos really.

I have a 75G glass tank available in very good shape. i could probably part with some live rock out of one of my tanks. i will also have a 72G bowfront available in a few weeks as well' date=' but its not in as nice of condition as the 75.[/quote']

That sounds like a possibility. Any lights or a stand to go with it? Shoot me a few pics when you get a chance!

  5. OK, some of y'all called it, but we're now thinking about adding a larger tank. Apparently I am hogging our little tanks and now Gillian wants her very own big one! (whistle)

I don't think she wants to start completely from scratch... looking for something with some live sand and live rock at least.

    Anyone? Thanks.

  6. Had a great visit to Westside on Saturday where we got some gorgeous stuff. It's definitely worth the drive out there! Looking forward to next month's meeting at your place.

Also got an awesome cyphastrea from Reefnjunkie who gave me a free alien eye favia as well! I even got to see him dressed up all proper in a tie, but I assume that wasn't just for me. ;)

Check out the pics in my 12g tank thread. Thanks again guys!

  7. Some pics of our recent additions! Thanks to Westside and Reefnjunkie for the hot corals and the great deals! (clap)

Acro - you can't see the pretty green polyps in the picture because I had just added it... also, I don't remember the name! I should write these things down.

  8. I'd prefer just to get rid of the whole thing versus waiting for someone else to possibly jump in if thats ok.

Popping it off the disc is on wont really require any "healing" per se, do you want to grab it this weekend?

LMK know and I'll mark it sold-I also have a small 3 eyed alien eye favia you can have if you want it-no charge, just for helping me get rid of this piece.

    Thanks!

Sure, I'm happy to take the whole thing, and the freebie! :) Are you going to be at the meeting?
