  2. The crux of the matter is this.....cruising and participating in this forum used to be fun...it's now an aggravation. Just like now...I wanted to read this thread. After spending 3 times as long loading the website amd logging in(aggravation) I had to look at the unfamiliar background template (aggravation)...attempt to read the "GREEN" font color(big aggravation)...I attempted to follow this thread. Every other page loaded in microseconds....every other page took forever.

I dislike aggravations...the hobby itself gives me plenty.....as a result I've only accessed this site 3 times since the changeover....before the changeover it was 3-4 times a day.

Any like minded folks out there?????????????????

  3. Seems that in the bod we are leaning for the 'no you can't sell the raffle price' while here it is showed the opposite.

Let's do something instead of going trough a never ending debate: let's move this decision to be voted in the member section with an official poll (sorry Kim!).

It seems to be an important topic, so let's the majority decide.

    What do you think?

Let me get this straight....it sounded like you said that the BOD was considering making discrimination acceptable forum policy????(nutty)

  4. I would just like to say that even though there has been quite a bit of drama going on in the forum these days, we all gotta look at it like this, we are like one big happy family. Every family has people that stand out, not everyone operates the same, there will never be a time when the whole family agrees. There are times when things are said in the heat of the moment that hurt others, and most of the time the sayer feels bad about it the next day. I think this is a healthy family and love being a part of it! Lets all raise a shot to good friends, the holidays, and our tanks, may they all be safe, and healthy.

PS, Nib High school football rocks.

    Here..here...

  5. I like both dogs and cats there should be another choice or more options! I think this poll should be pulled! Discrimination to birds' date=' fish, snakes, eels, and beavers and clams![/quote']

    Not the "d" word...pleaseDOH!

  6. Nothing ever changes...I'm a hero to some and a goat to others.

Just for the record....to the folks who think I had a "profit" motive....has this hobby ever provided you with a profit? We buy...we grow...we frag...we sell...we trade....ocassionally generating a positive cashflow...which we then plow back into the hobby.

Somehow I think the vendors benefit from this.

  7. I commend everyone on this well thought out and civil discussion. Maybe we can get the other thread merged here so people can read some excellent points on the subject before making a decision.

So...you're the other Doug!! I kept hearing someone at the party call out "Doug"....I kept turning to acknowledge....could never see who they were talking too!

  8. I agree that to enter just to resell is bad form but we should remember that the raffle is so the club will make money. As long as they are paying for their tickets then the true goal is being met. Also we should remember that sometimes we get something' date=' get it home and find that it does not work with our system. I know I have gotten things thinking they would work great and then had to sell them because they didn't work out.[/quote']

Which..in my case....is exactly what happened. I thought I needed to run CO2 with my planned reactor media...then discovered...after the party and researching it further...that I didn't need it. Had I been better informed I would have told my wife not to plug that sack.

  9. Bob, I don't think the threads were deleted they were just pulled to be reviewed by the rest of the board members. While I don't personally agree with the decision to keep raffle winners from selling their won items in the classifieds, I do think it is reasonable to pull the thread for review by the rest of the board before the thread gets out of hand as it was clearly heading down that path. This way one person isn't making the decision and it gives them time to review before all the drama unfolds.

If this was the position of the board, I do think this should have been stated at the time of the raffle. It's also not clear to me why it is so upsetting to the sponsors for someone to sell their item they won on the classifieds particularly if it wasn't even the sponsor who donated the item.

In the famous words of the Bartels & James ads...."we appreciate your support" !

  10. My apologies for keeping all of you busy til late last night dealing with an issue I felt compelled to bring to a head.

I may have overreacted a tad, but the incident sent my personal BS meter straight into overload.(flame)

My apologies for getting caught up in the moment. Hopefully my “pot stirring” will help establish well thought out, understandable, well communicated and equitable policies in the future, and protect the club and it’s officers from any liabilities resulting from “knee jerk” policy.
