Ok I’ll bring some into a LFS and see what they get then. Any input on high PH?

I wouldn’t worry about your PH unless it’s for sure crossing 8.6+. 8-8.4 is a good place to be

Mine go through 6 or 8 different cycles throughout the day.

So alternating, synced, full blast, unsynced, backwards, slow, pulsing, fast pulsing...

All I know is the corals are happy :)

The gyres are great but the require a lot of cleaning.

Did you program that with the apex or is that an option with the maxspect controller?

It finished at 00:17:12, so 17 minutes vs the previous average of 15 minutes.

It must have been a one-off glitch, or perhaps it did some addition initialization or priming after the update.  I know it ran the initialization process right after the update because that's when I captured the screenshot above.  But no idea why it ran 40 minutes on that first test after the update.

Sweet I’ll go ahead and update then, thanks for the info

My next test will begin in 5 minutes.  I'll report back how long it took.

Did you already install the new AOS update?

Not yet was going to do it when I get home in about an hour so let me know because I’ll hold off if it’s switching to 40 min

Ah okay, yeah mine is between 14-16 min. I hope it’s not 40 min tests after the update, I might get some scolding from Paige if R2D2 is chatting away for that long 😂

    Update:

I just checked my latest Trident graph and noticed an increase in test times. I currently have mine set to test 8/4 times per day, so calcium & mag are tested at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00. Here are the times logged on the graph for calcium test results:

    6/10/19 00:14:57 (15 minutes)
    6/10/19 06:15:00 (15 minutes)
    6/10/19 12:15:02 (15 minutes)
    6/10/19 13:08:00 --- installed AOS update ---
    6/10/19 18:39:39 (40 minutes)

I'll be curious to see if this was a one time increase, or if all tests will take that long now.  Next run is at midnight, so I guess I'm not going to bed for at least the next 45 minutes or so...

Where do you see how long the test takes?

I love my gyre!  Do you run yours in one direction only, or alternate forward and reverse?  I recently changed mine to alternating and it seems to have a very nice effect on the overall tank flow.

I have mine set to a 1 min forward ramp-up. Then 20 seconds reverse flow, not sure if it’s good but everything seems happy.

Over the past few days I've been fine tuning my 2-part dosing schedule based on the readings from my Trident, and now for the past 24 hours the readings have remained within +/- 0.05 dKH of my target, so I'm pretty happy with the results.  I'm just amazed at how useful the Trident is!!!

    Screen Shot 2019-06-06 at 9.43.08 PM.png

I wonder is this could eventually be a negative. Have you’re tank so stable for a long period of time and running out of some 2 part or something that drops your alk 1-2 points. Where normally this wouldn’t be a crazy big deal might turn into a big shock for the tank.

Future reefcentral headlines. “Alk drops to 7.1 and wipes tank” 😂

Yet another example of how useful the Trident can be!  How long do you think it would have taken you to discover this drop in alk without it?

A few weeks ago I had a big drop in alkalinity after I changed out the GFO media in my reactor, and the Trident revealed this within a couple hours.  Before this, I never knew GFO impacted alkalinity.

Well I made sure to get a trident on release day because I’m lazy with testing... so either this weekend during maintenance time or when stuff looked pissed off and I decided to test haha.

I got my dos hooked up and running so it’s already fixing the tank for me which is nice. The calcium and mag tested fine on the new batch so I’ll just add a bit of alk buffer to my water changes until I get through this box.

Truthfully I think apex and their trident is single handily going to keep my sps alive/growing 😂

This might be a dumb question, but did you double-check the salinity of the new water?  Is it possible you didn't add enough salt mix into the water, causing the lower alk as well as lower salinity?  Just trying to rule out another variable.

Didn’t have lower salinity, always check with a refractometer.

And for an update to this I just mixed up a fresh 5 gallon and got 5.9alk with sailfert test kit. Looks like I got a bad batch.

Kinda bummed, i just bought a fresh box couple days ago, haven't opened it yet but im going to and ill also run some tests.

edit: We're talking about blue boxes right? Not red.

Yes blue box, tested new batch at 5.9.

On the plus side, already digging the trident for these random mishaps. I’ve used rpm forever without issues, it just happened to catch one bad batch. So that’s a win in my book 👍😁

I'm going to follow this, i mixed 40g the other day from an older box of fritz and it came out at about 5.3 alk

I have a feeling this is what I’m going to find. I’ve never had an issue with this salt and this was the first batch from a new box.

  14. 2 hours ago, albertareef said:

That is disturbing.  Would have to be a significant difference for a 20% change to bring the setpoint down that far unless something else funky was going on.  Does everything look OK?

Everything in the tank looks fine, saw nothing weird until the trident did it’s testing and sent me an alert. Will be interesting to test a fresh batch tonight

  15. I’ve been using fritz for awhile now and love it. Opened a new box this weekend and did a water change on the tank with it. The alk is suppose to be 8.5 when mixed up. Well after a 20 gallon water change my alk dropped a fair bit, alk and calcium should have gone up.

Ill have to make up a 5 gallon bucket and test it tonight to see what’s up.

You can see where I changed the water, it tested and immediately kicked the doser on

That’s what my yumas used to do when they’re budding off babies.

Should have updated this but that’s what happened, took about a week of looking weird then it was back to normal with a baby next to it. Pretty cool
