There's a lot of good stuff in there. I can't wait to get to the memory improvement section:D
Ha ha, you and me both man. You tell me where they sell that and I will be the first in line.

Have you checked HD or Lows? I thought I seen it at one of the two places before
Yes thank you, I did buy a bag today. I was not sure though cause I hear everyone talking about #3 Portland Cement and all the big stores carry I/II type. I guess the difference might be the color which I could really care less about.
-
I got mine from mason's supply in Portland area.
Let me know if you want to speed up the process of getting rock. I have about 150 lbs that are cured and in a tank with salt water and fish. I have another 150 lbs that are in fresh water that are in the process of curing. I have another 4-500 lbs that are outside in the beginning stages of curing. (sitting out in the air and getting hosed off every day or so).
We are asking $2/lb.

Honestly the idea is to make my own frag plugs. I don't really mind all of the work and would like to have a bunch on hand. As far as live rock goes are you talking about real live rock or home made. I ask only because if I were making my own rock it would be for the purpose of either making special shaped pieces or just not stripping the reefs of rocks. Thank you for the offer though, I may take you up on some.

Can anyone tell me where to find Portland Cement?
-
Ha ha ha ha ha ha, I am laughing at you right now. How is that book treating you, good stuff huh!

It appears you have 2 types of birds nest, top pic I believe is a pink birds nest "depending on your lighting" The bottom pic I believe to be a cyphastrea.
Hope this helps:)

Don't get rid of it. By the looks of the polyps and the fact it has a green center it is most certainly not aiptaisa. I am willing to be that this is the start of some nice green star polyps. Post a better photo and I will confirm it for you.

It looks like you have a lot of Iron in your water by the looks of that skimmer, do you run on a well?
-
I watched some REAL ones end on eBay the other night for around 180.00 for 1 polyp.
-
i have some small frags i could make.
How much are you looking to get for them. I am definitely interested.
-
I could be completely out of line as I don't know you, but are you sure you want to drop an sps colony into a new tank? I have never found them to do good in anything new at all. Just my opinion and yes I may be interested. How long have they been used?
-
I would be interested in a piece of that too if you can spare it. I have some nice stuff to trade.
-
Anything in particular?

I think if you utilize a quick google search you find the difference between something that will work, and something that you will love for years. A nice primer, a good paint and a nice sealer will make it everything you want it to be.
A spray paint in my opinion will require more work then anything, because you will end up sanding and painting over and over just to get an even coat.
A stain is nice and easy but requires a nice even coat and a little bit of sanding.
A brush will leave strokes and I don't have any experience with spray but I imagine that if you do it right will end in the best paint job. However either way you choose be sure to spend the time and do a nice sealer or lacquer and it will be fine.

I know you said t5'' date=' but how many of what size? It is a bit hard to tell what the scale is by your pics. What is the total capacity of your new system? I'm interested to see your results. I have a small (29g) tank, skimmerless, at my office right now. It seems to be growing zoos pretty well, but I guess that's a relative statement.[/quote']
Well on the website they are using VHO's, but I would like to keep my zoo's a little deeper in the tank and know that t5's have better penetration. I will probably be running 4 high output 4 footers. I haven't decided what color spectrum to run yet. I have some more reading to do before I finally decide.

A few pictures
If you still have the tank and stand/canopy combo I may be interested.

I understand your reservation, but why the continued "rain on the parade" attitude? Perhaps it won't work. That's reasonable, and an understandable view. However, if people want to try to see if they can rally some support and interest, what is it to you?
I felt attacked and belittled by your previous response to my posting. Regardless of whether this was your intent or not, your phrasing of your point has come across this way. Please consider how you make people feel when stating your opinions. We all understand that you are against a formalized coral farmers market. We all understand that you believe it would not be a financially viable operation. Please allow open discussion of alternatives without squashing the conversation with pessimism.
Not to upset anyone, and I can't stress that enough. What good would a forum like this be if we were not getting opinions from all sides. Let everyone share their opinion, let's face it if something like this is actually going to happen then these are all points that will need to be discussed at some point anyway. This is how great ideas are born. Steveweast may sound negative, and maybe he is, but he also raises good points and questions.
Something like this is more then just a drop in the bucket and would be a lot of work by a lot of people. I for one think he has a very good point about just starting local and small. Maybe instead of a large (rent a building) type of deal, a smaller frag trade/swap/sale is i order just to get a feel for what it takes and who is interested and would also provide a great opportunity for some of the great minds here to get together and discuss in person the cons and pros of what they have seen so far and how they feel about it.
Lowman, also has a good idea, and might really be worth looking into.

Yes all good points from everyone. I think that a good point to remember is that, while yes we are in an obvious economic slope, and yes it has made times harder for everyone. However there is still money out there being spent.
A friend of mine races Hydro plane boats. I usually go with him to be his pit crew and just to hang out. I was surprised to see that they let anyone sign a waiver and take a boat out for a drive, in fact they strongly encourage it. They use this as a means to drum up business for their hobby and to get new people hooked.
So my point being that this kind of an event is exactly what is needed, albeit it needs to be done right, it should still be done. Instead of sitting on the back burner and hoping that we make it through this, let's do something to bring in new people and show people what it is all about. I have been asked before "why do you pay so much for algae" while the person was staring down at my Tyree sunset Monti. JUst to make a simple point, this shows a real ignorance to what it is we love and do.
In my closing argument, real simply, if there is money to made out there then we should do everything we can to get everyone we can involved in the hobby and I think a Symposium, exhibition, market, show, trade, convention, is an excellent way to do this.

yeah ive been using the dollar store glue but yeah its hard to get it to stick' date=' is there a better glue that sticks easier? does the BRS adhere better?[/quote']
I have never used dollar store glue but I would be pretty sure it is better. I have never had a problem getting my frags to stay and you get a really big bottle too.
If you want to make it super easy, there is stuff (the name escapes me right now) That will dry the glue instantly. It's actually identical to the oils we have in our skin (that's why it's so easy to glue your fingers together).
You can't use it on the coral but you can use it on the frag rock and it works very well. I am sure someone will chime in with what it is called.

I will give them a shout, thanks!
-
ah....you just like it because it sounds like your name.(whistle)
I didn't honestly think about it until after I started to type it, but it makes sense that I would think it is a good name.
-
Anyone have any of this. I have gotta get my hands on some. Cash, trades, first born, whatever, let me know.
-
I had always thought glue was glue was glue as far as super glues go, I have found out different. I like the gel glue found on bulkreefsupply, it works great and is affordable. However I haven't used a lot of different types.

Castle Rock is a ways out for a meeting' date=' but you are welcome to organize a "Meet & Greet" in your area at any time! Set up a thread and see what response you get! I may just make it out there... sounds like a nice roadtrip![/quote']
I would love that! I don't think I would want everyone showing up here without having a home tank setup first though.

Since I am new to the forum I really have no idea what this grow out competition is about. Care to fill me in.
