  1. Oh yeah, that's not how I read it - just reassuring (well, attempting) that the unusual growth pattern didn't mean it wasn't the ORA.

That's it on the upper right, right? I don't think that's too low at all. I think the light requirements of the birdsnest are slightly less than acros. It's pretty close to the top, there. I think it's fine there.

    Yes on the right.

Not positive but mine seems to grow with the flow i have on it' date=' mine was growing similar to that until i upped the flow in the tank now its growing different directions.[/quote']

I'm not sure how much flow it gets because it is in front of the overflow. Hopefully that will change when the 2 MP40W ES's get here. Hopefully everything will like it.

  2. That's the thing' date=' there are 100 variables that can affect the growth patter/color - so I wouldn't be too quick to say it's not what someone said it was[/quote']

I wasn't trying to say it wasn't what they said. I was just commenting on the growth pattern compared to other BN I have seen.

Again, have I set it too deep?

The acro placed on the left went nuts sitting up so high in the tank. It seems like every time I look in there it has gotten bigger.

  3. That is the ORA green bird nest it just has a cool up right growing pattern in your tank

    I like it!

Could that be because it is placed deeper in the tank? I love the colors and the growth. I was just hoping it would grow out as well as upward.

  4. The ORA Green and the ORA BoP have a more rounded growth pattern and don't have the sharp ends and don't intertwine as much. That is an odd, vertical growth pattern, though. Looks more like a Birdsnest to me than a Millie.

But as for getting the right name attached to a coral - people just toss the names around left and right lately. Any BN with green polyps is called the ORA Green - like calling a bandage a Band-aid.

I bought it at Liquid Sunshine before they closed up and that is what they called it. It does look quite a bit different then when I bought it though. It didn't have that "reach for the sky" look. I wonder if I placed it too far from the surface?

  5. Tri-colors can turn brown/white in the lower branches/middle. If you're lucky, and have good water conditions and lighting, it will stay more solidly purple.

The "bonsai" name is a reference to a specific coral from GARF, the Purple Bonsai. But there are a zillion purple w/green polyp acro's. 'Tri-color' is more of a generic term for purple with green polyps. Tyree has a nice Tri-color, but again, very common color morph. Technically (not that any cares) it's only a GARF Bonsai if the frag came from that specific mother colony. This distinction is lost locally. Apparently, this it today's soapbox, for me.

Thanks. Water conditions are always good and there is plenty of light so hopefull it just keeps growing and stays beautiful.

  6. 1 is not granulosa.

    2 is a tricolor bonzai

3 could be a stag or maybe a prostrata - i'd say prostrata

4 is poccillipora maybe hard to tell

5 not sure. Branches look to thick to be valida

I see purple with green polyps. What is or will be the 3rd color?

I just looked up both examples of #3 and I am very happy which ever one it is.

I will keep looking up the names you guys are giving for the others until they are all identified.

    Thanks

  7. Which one were you looking to id? front or back left? If back left....I don't know...I though front center and pic #3

#3 is in the front or foreground and #4 is the back right. Just looked at some blue stag pics and if that is it I am stoked. In February it was just a straight piece with 2 small arms. It looked brown under PC lighting.

  8. My Green/Purple Frog Spawn has done very well.

This shot is from my 29g with PC lighting and it has maybe 5-6 heads.

I quit counting how many heads it had after it got past 30.

It takes up a nice amount of ground in the middle of the tank now. I drilled a nice rock and epoxyed it there for stability. It is one of my favorites.

  9. It has been a while since I posted here so I thought I would update. the build thread. The cancer is in full retreat and I give the build a lot of credit because it helped keep my mind off of the crappy stuff in life. A few changes have happened including the addition of a 1/3hp chiller.

Here is a February shot and then one I took today.

I'll give someone else a shot at the setup and if nobody bites we can probably work something out. I will be coming up to OHSU sometime in the next couple of weeks for a PET scan. I'll let you know. My zoa's didn't do too well under the MH lighting so they will be joining the Clown.
