  1. Yeah no kidding. I'm a firm believer in them. You don't have to convince me one bit. Sometimes experience is more valuable than having the facts laid out in front of you. Some things just work when they shouldn't
  2. I'm not sure about this one. I've never tried running both in one reactor. The only problem that Iwould see is that carbon has to be changed more often than phosban so that would make it difficult. I would recommend getting a couple of 2 little fishies phosban reactors if this is what you wanted to do.
  3. I would be interested in what one of the old guys says. Could be worth looking in to
  4. let us know what it says. I"m interested now. This is a topic that I feel pretty passionate about since I think i've seen this first hand.
  5. ahhh a used controller can be had for 120 bucks or so. You don't need one of the big fancy pants neptune deals. Just a ph controller.

    New Scolly

holy crap that thing is nice.
  7. oh I"m in the poor house with you. I have just collected my stuff over time and the ca reactor was given to me by a dear friend for setting up a tank set up that she bought. She just kinda wanted the basics and a lifereef reactor came with it along with a full bottle of co2. That is the only way that I was able to get a reactor myself.
  8. it is extremely hard to use a cr without a ph controller. It can be done with a bubble counter but I don't recommend it. As far as using it without a sump..........I've never tried it but I don't see why you couldn't.
  9. Finch, I don't think a probe would save the fish if something went horrible. That is absolutely where the gfci comes in handy but I do feel that it alleviates some of the stress that could be produced by a small stray current. I dunno. I can't see the harm in trying it. 20 bucks isn't a lot to spend for a little piece of mind. I don't know rick. I've seen ss actually start to degrade with saltwater too. The titanium grounding probes run around 15-20 bucks so by the time you fought with trying to diy one, I think you would end up spending more money.
  10. finch, they are just a titanium probe submersed in the water and plugged in to the grounding part of the socket. It has the 2 other prongs too but they are plastic. No it's not for us it's for the fish. They are way more sensative than we are too these things.
  11. I'm just saying, if it takes a certain amount to trip the gfci, wouldn't there be room for enough juice to stress the fish before being tripped??? Lets say it takes a level 10 (I have not clue when it comes to electricity measurements) to trip a gfci and you have level 8 running through your tank. I think the fish will be stressed due to their sensative lateral lines. Wouldn't you??? I don't need hard numbers as it would mean as much to me as someone typing in russian.
  12. Finch, doesn't it take a certain amount of "juice" to kick a gfci??? This is a great topic and something I very rarely see discussed so I would like a little more insight.
  13. The reason I'm such a believer in them now, is when I worked at oasis, we had a tang in the frag tank that was looking really really bad. Color faded and blotchy. He just didn't look good. He was eating like a pig, swimming great and we tried everything. We decided as a last ditch effort to toss a grounding probe in tank just for S and giggles to see what happened. It was honestly like a miracle. Within about a week, the fish had his color back and was looking outstanding. Was it the Grounding probe????? I don't know and can't say for sure but the evidence pointed in that direction. Now I will not have a tank without one.
  14. that's a good price on that ballast. I hope someone takes it.
  15. Personally, I think you would be fine with some sps in that little tank clay. With the 96 watter I mean. You may have to feed more often than you would with more intense lighting but I think you would be fine.
  16. I do. It's better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.
  17. oh Danna this is sad sad sad. You can't sell these little guys=(
  18. Thanks bro. I'm just sending it back to toshiba. It's still under warranty and better to have them look at it.
  19. Ok so this week, I lost my job. (90 review they decided not to keep me on) My supervisor said it's because they coudln't afford my ins. due to the massive amount of foreclosures on the property. So that sux. Then I find out that bob is leaving DVL. That sucks even worse. And my hard drive crashed on my puter and I have to send it back to toshiba now. WILL IT EVER STOP!!!!!!!!!(flame)(flame)(flame)
