  1. The tank is sold to Nick at Rose City. I did get the tank from Jason, it would have made a really nice setup, but I just don't have time for it right now.
  2. I have a 40 gallon breeder that I was going to set up, but just don't have the time or the money right now. Drilled overflow and return with ball valve installed on the return. I need to reinvest some time and money into my other hobby - making beer! (drinking) $50 PM me if interested. Mike
  3. SERIAL KILLER ON THE LOOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The OG six pack (six line wrasse) is under interrogation after the suspiscious death of lightning (firefish goby)(enforcer). Lightning was mysteriously found shriveled up on the floor of the conference room during a routine morning check-in at the Coast Guard reef residence(whistle). OG's suspected accomplice Chubby (Cleaner Shrimp) has been uncooperative with investigators and has even lashed out at his partner for being too open with the authorities(nono). Six Pack is also wanted for questioning in the recent death of a blue-leg hermit crab. A Green BTA was recently introduced to the residence, however he was not happy with the accomodations and had to be removed for fear that he would create a toxic environment for all of the inhabitants(drooler). The other new inhabitants on the reef are doing well in their new domicile. In this edition of why in the world, Corky (clown) has continued to host the Duncans, who are not too pleased by his advances(flame). In another news flash 2 turbo snails were brought back from exile in the sump for some emergency cleanup after a mild algae outbreak. Their destructive behavior is being closely monitored and any future outbursts on the reef will result in another trip to exile. That is all for the news tonight here on W-CGRN, Coast Guard Reef Network. (rock2) R.I.P. Lightning Hosting the what? Until next time - Mike
  4. I agree, those little turds are not very photogenic. This is probably the best shot I have gotten in the few months we have had him. I'll look around to see if I have any better photos to post.
  5. I would have taken my old ride down there: My new ride is all stock, but if there is a race I'll be there! There is no comparing a 2.0 to the W8, that's for sure. (clap)(rock2)
  6. Updated Pictures So we have been busy packing the tank with everything we can get our hands on (clap), only problem is finding a place to put it all (whistle). But the most recent news is as follows: The turbo snail tribe was recently banished from the island and sent to the sump. They were summarily replaced with a Nassarius Snail Tribe who seem to be enjoying the island. The ever feared Zoa Eating Nudibranch Tribe hitch hiked their way onto the island and were quickly voted out and executed for their trouble. (enforcer) An Anenome was brought to the island in an attempt to provide a domicile for Corky. Unfortunately the anemone is unhappy (flame) refuses to play nice and has drawn into seclusion. Corky in an act of spite has begun to host the Duncans and has in turn made them very angry (threaten). A few other players have arrived on the island and have really completed the color spectrum in the tank. More to come next time.
  7. Welcome! Nice looking tank, lots of nice looking coral. What are the MH's 14K/20K?
  8. If you want you can check out the post for my 20 gallon setup we have in our conference room: Coast Guard Conference Room. We don't have the PC's but if you scroll through the thread and see the most recent pics it will give you an idea of our 175 watt XM 20K bulb. The early pics we were running a 10K so that will give you color perspective. I would personally go with the 20K, the blue makes the colors pop! (rock2) Hope this helps.

    LED tvs

I personally have a 42" Panasonic Plasma TV that I bought 3 1/2 years ago and love it. I decided last summer to pick up a 46' Samsung LCD and it quickly became my favorite of the two. The plasma looks awesome on HD channels and playing DVD's, but regular TV looks horrible. My LCD plays all means of TV awesome! According to Consumer Reports, Samsung is the leader in LCD TV's in the 40"-52+" range (smaller than that is a waste of money IMO). If you are interested I could scan the CR testing results and post them so you can check it out (but wouldn't be able to do it until tomorrow). Let me know.
  10. Well if having one killer in the tank wasn't enough Shane had to go bring in his serial killer anemone(nutty). This thing ate his cleaner shrimp and scooter blenny!! If anyone is interested I think we are going to start having tank death matches in our conference room!(laugh) JK. Mike
  11. Updated Pics It has been a little while and a few things have changed in the tank so I wanted to update you all. Our Pseudochromis decided he didn't like the tank and committed suicide by jumping over the back of the tank. We replaced him with a firefish Goby. We rearranged some of our scape around, added some armor of the gods, bubble tip anemone (no pics yet, he's hiding) and our Duncans are exploding! We gave in and decided to upgrade our Hamilton 10K to an XM 20K, what a sweet difference! Halides Rock!(rock2). Armor of Gods Duncans The Firefish Goby Full Tank Shot Thanks for looking.
  12. TAD, I am also in the process of researching and determining the setup I want to run on my 40 Breeder. I plan on setting up a single 250 Watt halide with 2 36" T-5's (1 10K daylight and 1 super actinic) as supplements. JMO.

    Duncan problems

Well Andy, if all else fails you could let Shaneand I host it for a while in that "magical" 20 we picked up from you and set up in our office. (clap) I hope it pulls through for you as well as Shane's did in our tank. - Mike
  14. I gotta side with Perry on this one. Even if you think you have a strong stomach, I have one word "EPISIOTOMY"! (scary) Don't watch. That image will be ingrained into your memory forever. And unless you are doing natural birth I have another word for you "EPIDURAL", it will save your life. (wife)Other than that enjoy the moment and follow the other advice already given.
  15. I am personally a fan of the LPS right now. The LPS in our office tank have taken off!!(rock2)
  16. [language filter] SHANE! You cracked it! I bet your wife is going to give you a case of foot is a** disease!(wife) I'll keep my eyes open. (sad)
  17. I would honestly have to say that all of this seems blown way out of proportion. I am a total newbie to this site and salt water in general. If it were not for Shane setting up a tank in our office, I still would be on the outside looking in (Thanks Shane(clap)). Some time in the next year I plan on setting up a 40 gallon breeder I bought (wife) so I have been reading posts on this site for a few months and will continue to do so as I progress towards my build; that way by the time I actually get to the point where I want to post questions and look for advice I know the reliablity of the information. Regardless of what their rep power or post count is, I read and interpret in my own way. I think that the post count and rep power mean nothing to anyone who actually pays attention to what is posted on the site and knows the credibility of the posts. I can understand some peoples frustration with the overinflation of post count and rep power, I have always felt that in the end it doesn't really mean anything to the knowledgable members of the board. We just need to trust that other newbies will be cautious when judging feedback. DOH! But I guess nothing I just said will mean alot because I have about the lowest post count and rep power on the board.
  18. So all of our livestock in the tank seem to have survived our treaturous weekend of electrical glitches. Everything seemed to be getting back to normal so we took a field trip to get some fish. We picked up a clown, six-line wrasse, bi-color pseudochromis, and an emerald crab. They all seem to be happy in the tank and we are starting to see some coralline algae. Here are a few pick, more to come as the tank matures! Our Clown: Shane's Duncans: Six-Line Wrasse and Torch Coral: Full Tank: Thanks for looking!
  19. No, it is a two outlet socket (15 amp I believe), but we had a few too many things plugged into it originally so I think we damaged it and now it is tripping left and right. We are going to straighten it all out tomorrow.
  20. We are definitley going to wait a little while until the tank matures before we venture into the mandarin realm, just to see how much pods our refugium will produce, I think we will be alright but we need to wait and see. I think I am going to go pick up our Six Line Wrasse tomorrow and get him in the tank so we have something that swims around. We did however have another near catastrophe this weekend as our GFCI tripped again and we came into a dark cold tank (63 degrees). Everything looked pretty shoddy. We got everything back on line and let the system heat back up to 78 and most everything seems to be coming back around, we will have to wait and see how everything looks tomorrow. We are also going to replace the [language filter] GFCI outlet too! I will let you know how we make out.
  21. Well we hit a bit of a snag the other day. For some reason all of a sudden we tripped our GFCI outlet we had all of our equipment plugged into, and when we got into the office everything was off. Shane quickly rearranged the electrical situation to get the necessary stuff on line so we didn't lose anything. Then later in the afternoon we had one of our unit electricians come over so he could install a new outlet so we could plug our AV equipment into a different outlet to reduce the load on the GFCI. Shane and I had to take off so we left the electrician to do his work. He made the effort to plug in all of our gear, however did not understand the timer setup, etc. He accidentally plugged in our MH light and it was on all night!!!!! When Shane got to the office everything was shrunk up and looked pretty hurting. We left the light off for a few hours before turning it back on to feed and everything seemed to respond OK to that. I hope tomorrow when we go into work that everything survived the ordeal. I will keep you all posted as we progress. In the near future we hope to be adding a clown fish, blue linkia starfish, mandarin dragonet, and a six line wrasse.
  22. Andy, I grew up in Franklin, MA (45 min SW Boston). I love the east coast but I am glad I missed this winter, they are getting killed! One of my good buddies in college is from Rochester, NH. I apologize everybody for the picture dilema, I am going to correct that issue tomorrow and will add some more pics as well of the mostly finished product.
  23. Neglected by Shane What's up everybody. I am a newbie to the forum and to the world of salt water (I had a fresh water setup but I f-ed that up royally a few years back). Feel free to throw your toad comments, I grew up in Mass and it will take more than that to get through my skin! I hope with your knowledgable input I can see the error of my way and I can set up a nice system. I am going to Highjack Shane's post of our conference room reef aquarium right now b/c he is busy with his new 75 gallon build and I feel he has been neglecting our office 20 gallon a bit (thanks Andy). Here are some more pics to see what is going on in the tank to this point. Tank a little more settled: Our Shrimp Chubby (when he see's you approach the tank he sways his front claws like he is doing the twist). Shane's duncans looked like *** when he brought them in, I will have to post an updated pic: Our Frog Spawn is loving life!! This mushroom is absolutlely thriving! Entire Cabinet with the front face boards on I appreciate you all for taking a look and I look forward to a lot of support when I venture to build my 40g breeder. Mike
