  1. Scored this little piece today at OIAB. Forgot to ask what it is. Some kind of acro im assuming.

First real piece of SPS in a while. But after months of fighting with phosphates and nitrates finally got them to 0 trates and less than .25 phosphates.

Sorry phone camera shot. Pretty green, maybe with a touch of yellow.

  2. I was just at OIAB and they have recovered nicely. Cos got a bunch of new corals in to replace all that was lost in the last hit. He also fragged a bunch from his main display. Some good deals.

  3. I must have a male cause I have never noticed eggs on mine. I know my cleaner has eggs all the time. I would assume it is the same with them. Sorry you were probably looking for an answer huh? LOL. Lets see a picture, I was told that you can tell the difference between male and females. Kinda curious now.

  4. L. Most people if they have an issue with a store simply stop shopping there and let other people know their experience by word of mouth.

The best thing you can do. No one will always be happy with every store. People have bad experiences while others have great. Either way it does not justify killing off the corals or harming the fish. Thats for us reefers to try NOT to do at home.

  5. What good does that do? The damage would of already been done...they need some kind of copper tester in each tank to set off an alarm...or put locks on all the tanks with like a master key. sounds drastic but you can never be to paranoid...

I would hate to be a LFS owner. I get nerves when I see my 2 year old running around with pennies. I can only imagine how they feel!

The good it would do is at least you would be able to know who is in and out of your store. Not to mention they would have a better chance of finding the person that did it and prosecuting them, or taking them out back and giving them the beating they deserve.

  6. So much for sitting chatting with the owner when someone knew walks in. Im sure the feel the need to watch everyone closely. I dont blame them at all. Personally I would be paranoid and telling people to leave there bags at the door. I think they should all put a camera and a monitor on the entrance so you see your face when you walk in the door. Pretty easy to identify people that way.

  7. Thats really odd, I have him check my water all the time to compare. Has never onced questioned it. Was it Cos or someone he had working in there? Maybe im the lucky one. Feel like im the OIAB advocate here, but I have had good experiences there. Theres people that swear for that place across the river. Personally he will never get another dime of my money. I will always give a place a second chance. Bad days happen. But they happened again and again.

Noobs, were all the lights out or just the open sign? I know that light is always off it seems. My 6 year old tells him every time we go in there.

Just took a little video of my emerald crabs being goofy. The video is only like 30 seconds long but he hung there for about 15 minutes with my tangs coming in and munching now and again. His buddy climbed to the top and just sat there. I found it entertaining.

  9. So a month later I get to pictures.

Today I decided to make a huge mess to go along with everything else. I have been meaning to remove the eggcrate I put in the bottom of the tank for a while now. Now I know why I put it off. Made a big mess, pissed off everyone and everything in my tank. But on the lighter side I was able to do some aquascaping that I have wanted to do for a while. For the most part it was a chance to really get in there and clean things up. Lots of loose rubble rock, shells, old coral skeletons. I still need to move some things around once the water clears up more. But I want more open space, so I now have kind of 3 islands going on. Pictures are a bit cloudy but you get the jist. Ill update when I get finished.

I have been using microbacter 7. just got done with the 2 week initial treatment. Oddly enough my rock smelled really strange. Not like fresh seawater. Discussing it with Cos at OIAB and smelling good rock there was a big difference in the smell. Bad bacteria? it was worth a shot. After the 2 weeks my rock appears to smell fresher(if that is the right term), I have some red coraline growing all over the place. Never new it grew red, always thought it was purple. I was checking out Wannareefs tank today and noticed the same thing on his rock and he told me it was coraline. Learn something new ever day in this hobby.

Anyone had any experience with MB7 and bio fuel from Brightwell? The directions are crap on the bottle and everything I have read about how to dose it is from one extreme to the other. I was told to just add a capful of biofuel a day and stop the mb7 after the 2 weeks, but others have different opinions. So if anyone has experience I would like to get some knowledge on it.

    Feedback and opinions welcome.

  10. I understand completley. People have bad experiences at places. I had that exact thing happen with a LTA and a store across the river that I wont ever go to. Was told the same thing, your out of luck. To be honest it was my own fault for letting a store owner tell my it was ok to put a LTA in a brand new tank. I got a lot of really bad advice there. Of course you cant make money if you tell people the right things to do can you. It was not the LTA experience that did it but a ton of things over a years period.

I think it comes down to what "you" prefer. Ill take brutal honesty over lying to your face any day.

  11. +2 on that. But never underestimate the power of a child to put weird things in weird places, or a dumb idiot to toss coins into a pond/tank/creek/lake for luck or wishing, which is very bad for fish. He could have a penny in there and it would be hard to find. Betta people hunt down old real copper pennies and put them in the jars on purpose to prevent parasites which also seems kind of like using a hammer to cure a headache.

I have a real hard time believing anyone would dump copper on purpose, even after seeing video of it being done on ReefBuilders. I guess I might have more faith in people than I ought.

The same people, or I should say person that flags other stores craigslists ads, and or puts false craigslist ads claiming they are giving away things. But I am less trusting of people.

Personally get along well with Cos. OIAB has never done anything negative to me. Always helpful, always trying to help me figure out my tank issues. Just my experience. And I have yet to hear "oh that Clown tang will be fine in a 40 gallon tank".

  12. THey are still open 7 days a week as of a couple days ago. The phone thing sucks cause it is never answered, its the same recording as the old store. Do to recent "copper attacks" from certain people I think Cos is careful who works in his store. I do know he has to run and get supplies often.
