  1. Found this on another fish nerd site. Thought it was worth sharing: http://vimeo.com/5606758
  2. I thought Id share a story of my stupidity. We purchased our 1st SW tank from a relative about 2-years ago. (75 gallon) I knew that moving a tank of this size would be nearly an all day event (even though we only had to go 2 miles). To prepare for the move I bought (6) -10 gallon rubbermaid containers, and (4) of the 20 gallon size. We took all of the containers, plus a large 120 quart fish cooler to make the move. We drained all the water into the rubbermaids and separated out the fish and corals. The tang went into one of the 20 gallon containers with about 12-gallons of water. (I thought I was smart enough to not overfill.) Well we got almost everything packed up and loaded into my truck and my wifes new Mazda CX-7. (75 gallon tank fits with the seats down) What I didnt take into account was how steep the driveway was. I put one of the rubbermaid containers on the floor of my truck and the one with the tang on the front seat. As soon as I pulled up the driveway the top of the rubbermaid on the seat popped off and water began to spill out. I couldnt stop because I was pulling up the driveway and out onto the main road. As soon as I crested the hill, the container tipped back and spilled all but about 2-gallons of the water and the tang out onto the front seat. Since I was less than 2-miles from home, I just held on with one hand and drove as carefully as possible. By the time I got home, more than 10-gallons of saltwater had been spilled out on my seat and floor. DOH! What was worse, was my wife had nearly the same experience in her new car. Fortunately most of the water (nearly a gallon) went into the spare tire well. So by now I was ticked off and had to finish the move into the house. All was good except I had left behind a rubbermaid with some corals and some equipment. So I raced back to my relatives to pickup the rest. As I rounded a very sharp corner going too fast, I heard a swoosh. There was a 5-gallon bucket on the back seat of my truck with the filter and all the nasty filter water in it. (My brother in law who helped in the move put it there.) I had no idea that it was back there, until it tipped over spilling a gallon of the worlds nastiest water all over the back seat. (My truck still smells like something washed up on the beach.) I guess the moral of this story is if you use rubbermaids to move, make sure they are the type with the locking sealed top and only fill 1/3 of the way. Or more preferably use 5 gallon buckets with screw down tops.
  3. Im looking for a 36" T5 or MH fixture for my QT tank.
  4. Yep Xenia definitely got out of control. I like the movement of Xenia, but I wish it didn't grow so dang fast. Here is a pic from other day. (The previous pictures were a couple of weeks ago.) Im trying to slowly cut it back so that I only have it on the back wall. Now I have some Red Sea Xenia that is starting to take over. DOH! It was a hitch hiker on some zoas.

  6. It was out of the left frag tank on the right wall. They had a larger colony for like $65 or so. I also got some green polyp birdsnest and a teal acro.
  7. Which one is that, the left side frag tank or right side?
  8. Finch, you aren't far away from some more. I got it from Upscales.
  9. No prob Stylaster. If it grows as good as my other digis, then it shouldn't be long. One of these days I need to get over and look at your tanks in person. I have seen photos on here and you have some really nice stuff.
  10. Got these new frags a couple of weekends ago and took pictures last night. They are impressive with just the actinics.

    Acro problem

Thanks Smann. Im happy that you have had good results.

    Acro problem

Nothing is close enough to sting it, and I havent seen anything picking at it. Man, I dont like reading about the white band disease. Does it spread to other colonies, or just isolated? Right now my QT doesn't have sufficient lighting for SPS. I have a 40 gallon breeder, but have been looking for a 36" light. Should I still remove the frag from the DT?

    Acro problem

The base of one of my acro frags is dying. I havent changed anything for quite a while and have had this frag for almost a year. I just noticed it yesterday. Should I frag off the top portion, or just watch it? See the base turning white. This is the other side.

    Fish Names

Most of ours were named by my 6-year old niece: Sally and Dorthy - Clownfish Popeye - Clownfish in our QT Earl - Jawfish Daisy - Midas Blenny Jimmy - Zebra Goby Petunia - Kole Tang and we have 3 Georges - Chromis.
  15. Good. Be careful when you place that galaxea, it had 8-10" long sweeper tentacles in my tank.
  16. Everything is gone. Rick, it was nice meeting you the other day. How is everything doing?
  17. I have way too much Cheato and Xenia. If someone wants it, Ill give it away, otherwise Im just going to flush it down the toilet. Also I have a Galaxea that is 3-4" wide that is stuffed into the corner of my tank. I want to get rid of it. It has been moved several times and now its stinging my frogspawn. I live about 45 minutes North of Portland, but could meet halfway (LaCenter or Ridgefield?)
  18. Hyposalinity- (if you have a QT tank). Google it and you will find tons of articles. It is much safer than copper. I hypo all my new fish additions in quarantine, since I had ick in my DT over a year ago. Major pain in the ***, but you should remove all the fish and and place into QT and start the hypo process. Takes about 6-weeks if you do it properly. By then the life cycle of the ick in the DT has passed and without any hosts, they all die. I have never lost a fish to hypo.
  19. Yep. Thats our Midas Blenny. Fantastic fish, very fun to watch.
  20. Thats funny. My wife doesn't like our Chromis. She thinks they are too plain looking. They are a very tough fish, I accidentally left one in a Rubbermaid tub for 6-days. It was hidden in a piece of pipe when we moved, and I didnt find it until we were cleaning up. The Midas is a great fish and our newest addition. It is fast becoming my favorite.
  21. Thanks CA2OR. It has come a long way in the last year. Some of that Xenia is yours if you want it. Just let me know. pledosophy your tank is fantastic. WOW!
