  1. Wow Franklin' date=' you media whore! I never would have guessed. HAHAHA[/quote']

    How insulting!

I am; "The Official Male Courtesan To The Weekly World" and I demand an apology forthwith.

A local TV station may be even better? All we need is a spokesman for the club and Douglas for quick interviews?

  2. Hey Douglas. Think it would be worthwhile to contact the Register Guard (our local paper) and see if they would like to do a story on the meeting? The story would be about what happened at the meeting and to build up interest in PNWMAS. NOT PREVIOUS to the meeting.

Might make an interesting photo rich story for them.

Maybe they could talk to you and an officer of the club? Just putting it out there.

  3. I've used the mesh socks before and have been disappointed. My thinking was;200 mesh vs 200 felt and they should be the same at filtering. Plus the mesh is easier to clean. Well it is easier to clean but it does not filter anywhere near as much as felt. It seems the the indirect path that the water is forced to take with felt material allows for a much higher exposure to capture the particulates.

  4. I think we need a cadre of Eugene/Springfield reefers to help out Douglas before the meeting.

It could be "Celebrity Aquarist" (I have my birth certificate). We would break up into teams and do tasks that "The Douglas" assigns. I have dibs on being Gary Bussy!

  5. that's for sure coarse media! I am using the same stuff and clay is right. The magnesium in this media is sufficient to keep the levels in the tank.

Hydrostatic tests need to be done every 5 yrs. I just exchanged a 5 lb cylinder at the welding shop on 11 th street. The air gas guy was sending me to a some place in springfield to do the test but on my way to springfield, I saw this welding place and stopes to ask if they could the test for me. The took one look at the tank and said the due date is today and I can trade this one in for a new one right now !!!! Phew! Got a new tank for $9.00 without any tests.

Some time these fancy places can give you run around for nothing. My tank was brand new three yrs ago and this guy in airgas was making all kind of bs like there is a corrosion ets.

So I would recommend to take it to a place like that if you want to save some money.

Did they give you a price for a hydrostatic test and do you remember the name? My tank is 8 years old so I'll need it. Guess it will cost around $20 for the test? So it was $9 plus the C02 for a tank under 5 years old/hydrostatic tested, right? A good deal!

Sounds like the AirGas guy was full of gas!

Since I intend to use Kalk in conjunction with the CA reactor I should be depleting Mg. more quickly.

Thanks for the link Algae. I could not find this on their site by searching' date=' but the product number got me there and I ordered some. Great deal.[/quote']

Cool! Got 32 pounds shipped free, myself.

  6. These are good skimmers. The newer models have a Euro-Loc cup bayonet verses the older standard union. At the right price they are a bargain. They are built like a Mack truck. They were very expensive before imports took over. There have been improvements in new skimmers but not enough to pass on a great deal on one of these skimmers if you get a great price, IMHO.

  7. Kinda like this. You could also do the same in the middle. You would cut 4 for each 4X4 upright. You could also do the same for the middle. If you have a chop saw with a stop it would be quick work. If you could get it to my house we could whip it out.

I would advise getting plywood with waterproof glue.

  8. Looks very good! I like a taller stand like you have. I hate to paint/seal chipboard. I would suggest 2X4's vertically between the horizontal framing, if it is a glass tank, since the lag bolts will be the only component resisting downward shear force.

    Yeah, big tank!

  9. Only 3-4 minutes???

I have to check out that Turd In The Punchbowl on the urban dictionary :)

    This is pretty easy, pisano:

Picture yourself at a lovely dinner party. People are all in high spirits and everyone is happy. Look, a man is playing piano and people are singing along with him! Dick Cheney is actually laughing with people instead of at them. Your faith in mankind is restored.

Allesandro saunters over to the delightful buffet with his arm around his new bride, the erotic Clay. As he dips his ladle into the strangely aromatic crystal fruit punch and peers at the floating fruit, he discovers............

The party ends with gunplay and knifings. All because of one person's idea of humor.......

  10. Ouch' date=' which light was that![/quote']

It was a Currant Nova Extreme Pro , Steve. (nono) Glad it wasn't the Tek.

You want to get rid of it?

Looking to put new endcaps to use, Rick? Nah, I have extra ballasts. Just need to get the right endcaps. (scratch)

  11. My Tek 8 light was kicking on my GFCI so I changed to my 6 light and it started kicking on the GFCI. Figuring my circiut was overloaded I used "Clay's Theory of Overusing A Circuit" and I ran an extension from the bathroom.

Smoked like a Fiat (sorry Alex)!

  12. Got a few bags of this media with my used CA reactor and was wondering if anyone could guess what size it is? I have small, devious hands.

I got a SWC dual chamber reactor (looks to be pretty much the same as Octopus) and I believe that Octopus recommends extra coarse.

Saw a sale on coarse ARM for $14 gal. and don't wanna miss, if that is what I need.

Also, as a side note: Know when hydrostatic tests must be done on bottles?
