  1. Bump Bump Wanted to see if anyone was still interested in these? Looking to sell or trade. $80.00 for both.
  2. picture time Here's a couple pics of the tank so far.
  3. Ok so I have finished curing the rock and it's now in the tank. I have a few crabs and some snails along with a couple tank raised false percs. My water tests say it's go time to add some CORALS! If any of you have any frags they want to sell. I am now in the market!! I would post pics but the tank isn't much to look at yet. Got some small growth of coraline algea and thats about it.
  4. So I put the "haunted" skimmer back into the sump last evening. It fired up fine this time, and has been working ever since. I'm so clueless on what the heck was going wrong the other night??????
  5. plus my air intake is a nipple fitting that's mounted towards the top of my skimmer. It's above the water line at all times. There is no pump connected to the air intake line. It just grabs air as the water pushes past this fitting.Like I said I'm not positive but I thought it was a venturi style skimmer.
  6. I swear I'm not on crack guys! It seems so odd to me too! Everything is [language filter] near the same! Except I don't have a sock in the tub of saltwater or baffles.
  7. What I'm not understanding is I took it out of the sump tonight and placed it into the tub of saltwater and I got way more tiny bubbles right away than when It was in the sump. I turned off the main pump to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. I am clueless on this one???
  8. I have noticed that the skimmer I have works great in tub of saltwater while curing live rock but really sucks when placed in my sump. I can't get near the same amount of tiny bubbles while inside the sump. In fact while it's in the tub I can't see through it. But when it's in the sump its almost clear like i have no slat in the water? The salt level is the same, the water level is the same? I just don't know what the problem is? The skimmer is and older venturi type hooked up to a rio 2500. I assume it's a venturi. It has a nipple that sucks air after a 90 deg elbow wich goes to the pump. Either way I hope you guys know whats wrong. Other than it's old and needs to be replaced. (scratch)
  9. Took the tank off the stand and beefed up the top to support the weight a lot more. Just put water back in and I'll have to see if this fixed the problem. My issue was not useing waterproof glue! Yeah Smooth move on my part! All that woodworking and I had to go and ruin it with a dumb move like that. I just put L brackets all over the place to hold it all together along with laying about 6 2x3's under the top to give it more support.
  10. Well the tank was wet for a few days. The top to the stand started to cup towards the tank! Even with 3-2' L metal steel braces on the underside! To much weight I guess. Had to drain the tank and now have to come up with plan B.
  11. The tank is wet now(icon)Just waiting on the live rock to show up! ordered the 44 pound box from Marine Depot. I feel kinda bad not getting it from a LFS but it saved me about $100 bucks to do it this way. Bad thing is it isn't cured and will probably make a mess of my tank! Will post some pics as soon as I get the live rock into the tank. (party)
  12. Saw the stand and light mount you did for JSW Spectra. I may just have to steal that light mount idea! That thing looks sweet!
  13. Nice setup! I'm diggin the light mount. I'm setting up almost the same thing From James. LOL
  14. What size do you recomend? Plus do you think I need 2? I was thinking of 1- 4" fan.
  15. The tank is 2 x 2 x 20 w' an external overflow rated for 900 gph. It has an 1 1/2 drain line. I will post some pics of the back when I ge to my main computer.(Rim)
  16. Yeah i'm not a big fan of them either! i'm gonna run a couple actinic bulbs in there to so I built the hood to enclose everything. We'll see how long it last. Probably gonna ditch it somewhere down the road when we move. Not too worried about it now since the house market is so poor. Good time to buy but bad time to sell! I wish I could afford multiple homes. Lol
  17. Almost There Ok here are a few pics of the tank inside the house. I know it's not the best location but since the overflow is on the back it seems to stick out too far from the wall. (wife)
  18. Should have some pics up of the tank within a few weeks. the tanks inside the house now. Did a leak check on all the system and everything checked out! Just need to make a few trips back and forth to the local Lowes to fill up my tank w/ some 5 gal water jugs. Since I dont have a ro system as of yet. I'm running a Lumen Max 3 250w hqi fixture w/ a XM 1500k 250 w hqi bulb off of a PFO hqi ballast. I ran 1" flex spa tubing back to the two 1/2" returns all powered by the Eheim 1262 pump. I had to throttle the pump back a ton so my living room didn't sound as though I had a waterfall in the middle of it! Other than that I need to find about 40-50 pounds of live rock and sand and I'm ready to go!
  19. I ended up purchasing the Eheim 1262 off of Marine Depot. I saw that it was cheaper on Dr Foster and Smith but after shipping It came out to be more. I picked up the Lumen Max III 250w HQI w/ a PFO HQI ballast w/ lamp cord to splice and fit the ballast. They didn't have the Sunlight Supply Blue Wave 250 Watt HQI Ballast anymore? I went with the 1500 k 250w XM bulb for that fixture so we'll have to see how it does. The main things left to purchase are about 40-50 pounds of live rock and some sand. It's amazing how much all this adds up too! I will post some pics as soon as I can get it all up and running.
  20. The stand is finished. Now it's time to put it all together. I should have it up and running by December. I still have to get a light and return pump for it but hey, I'm a little bit closer to putting water into this thing.(rock2)
  21. I'm gonna have to plumb out my sump for an external. After putting my skimmer in there and it's pump I literaly would have to squeeze the big Eheim into the leftover space. I didn't realize this untill I got the visual by putting everything in there. I personaly feel that the Snapper is overkill. I have heard a lot of good things about Iwaki pumps, but man they are expensive. Gen X on the other hand saves me some cash but I have heard so many mixed opioins on them.
  22. Whats funny about this project is I started it with a table saw and a biscuit jointer, and a router. I now have a 6" joiner w/ stand, a belt sander, 20 + clamps, router table, and a bunch of other small tools to get this thing done. It seems as if I needed a new tool for just about every step of this thing. After I get the tank started I promised my wife I would make a dining room table so I wouldn't get in trouble for purchasing all those tools. LOL Thank you all for the kind words.
  23. I'm looking for about 900 gph w/ about 3-4 feet of lift. I have visited a few LFS and most recomend either a gen x or the snapper. Not sure if I said this before but I have two 1/2" returns and I plan to put valves on them to control the flow. It just seems as if there are a million options out there and I just want to do this right the first time hopefully.
