The physics lab at my school (Reed College) owns a quantum (PAR) meter. The lab technician I talked to didn't know if it had a waterproof sensor or not; he said he'd check. If it does, I could probably get him to loan it to me for a week or so--certainly not as nice as the club owning one, but a couple of us could collect data. And a $0 cost is nice
I'll keep y'all updated.

Very nice. Only thing I would suggest is to incorporate some sort of dust collection system. For example, design a port so that a shop-vac hose can sit behind the fence. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about: (not my pic, just pulled off google)
Routers produce the most dust of any tool I know, and I hate sweeping up after them
Just a thought, other than that, nice table!

Salinity is 1.024 just as it has been forever. I have an auto-topoff so it stays quite stable. I've tried feeding it; it eats but doesn't fully expand out.

My frogspawn looked really odd for the last couple days. It was kind of semi-retracted. It certainly wasn't all the way closed like it is at night or when I move it, but it's tentacles were only protruding maybe 1" beyond the fleshy part of the head, rather than its typical 3" or so.
It's not brown slime, and it's been healthy for the last month or so, including having grown a couple new heads. Nothing has changed in terms of light or flow, the only new thing is I've gotten an RBTA. It's way away from the frogspawn though, so no possibility of stinging.
I'll try to get pics up tomorrow; lights are out now. Thanks in advance for any possible explanations.

Very nice pics. This is just with the kit lens? I can't wait to see what you can do with a macro...

PS Did you get my PM? Even though things didn't work out this weekend I'm still interested...

Any chance we could get some photos?

Clams will do fine under that fixture.

PS the tank dimensions you listed are for a 90 gallon.

Still looking for one, so bump.

Gorgeous corals. Is your pseudochromis really aggressive, or is meanie just a random name? I've heard they're usually pretty docile...

I don't have anything to transport RO/DI in, so I can't help there, but I was wondering if you're also looking for salt?
I'd be happy to donate a bunch of Instant Ocean.

Hey Jay,
Did you get my PM?

Got a new friend today (tomini tang):
Sorry for the lousy picture, but he's a shy, and quick bugger.
Hope you guys enjoy.

Double post, sorry...

I'd love to show up, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get out to Newport at all (don't have a ride as of yet). I also wouldn't be able to provide much in the way of food, though I'd be happy to chip in with cash.

I did lose the beige acro as Joel predicted :( . Oh well, these things happen I suppose.
Meanwhile, the rest of the SPS and other corals continue to do well. I've also added a sun coral, which can be seen enjoying some yummy mysis below.
Hope you guys enjoy.

If you have an RBTA for sale, let me know. I'm looking for a small specimen (read low price), under or at $40 or so.

I'm still looking for a ride. Again, I'll split gas and food money. If I can't find a ride, I won't be able to go, so please help me out!

Very nice, can't wait to see it full of coral. Is the fixture the 8-bulb?. Can you tell me (publicly or via PM if you prefer) who did the carpentry for your stand?
Thanks.

I'll need a ride. I'm happy to split gas money, and am flexible on all other aspects (stops, etc)

Thanks for the input Joel.
There definitely is some brown algae growth in certain spots. I'm not seeing RTN as I've heard it described, but like I said I'm new to SPS and might not recognize it happening. In any case, let's hope it survives...If it doesn't, I won't be terribly distrought considering it only cost $10.
Thanks again with all the info, and BTW I'll most likely take a swing by the shop tomorrow. If I can work out the timing with my other commitments.

I'll be in for the evening if anyone wants to chat...

Why do you say it's so unhealthy? It has significant polyp extension at sunset and all through the night, and no RTN or STN. It's not bleaching, so...What makes it appear unhealthy?

Thanks for the heads-up on the turbinaria. With frags of this size, how do you tell the difference?

skimmer/pump question
in Equipment

Mesh mod it. http://www.randystacye.com/diythreadwheel.htm
It chops the bubbles a lot smaller than a standard impeller, resulting in more efficient skimming.
For this to work, though, the venturi has to be before the pump. I'm not sure whether the PM skimmer's venturi is before or after the pump.
