  1. I would think an eheim auto feeding and a digital timer would be what you would want. Set up the pump to turn off a few minutes before the feeder and then let it stay off for 10-15 minutes.

Maybe feed two small feedings a day. Once when your home and like to see the fish run around and a second time at night when the polyps are out.

  2. Heat, bulb replacements and energy savings are the main reasons I switched the LED lights. Whenever I look at my old halide sitting in the closet it looks like an old model T.

Better equipment pays for itself. Switching to dc power heads and return pump next week. Technology is changing the way we do reef keeping.

  3. Today I ordered two of the cp-40 and a dcs9000 return pump. I have their dosing pump on my current tank and it has been working good for me.

Reviews I have seen have been pretty good. I am looking to put one on each end and alternate the wave timing. Through the coarse of 24 hours should be some random flow through the tank as they cycle.

  4. I shut down my refugium and put an ats in a few weeks ago. Algae is just now starting to compete with my skimmer. Its lite with ~20 watts of grow LEDs on both sides. Too early to tell, but seems promising.

I did mine off of the primary drain. If I were to do it again I'd just run a pump to it. Too much repiping and hassle. Simple solutions are usually best.

Yet my dream set up is to have a display refugium again. Its like having two completely different reef tanks to look at. I had an open top with tall mangroves under a MH and critters down below. Nearly impossible to over feed. Bulletproof.

  5. setup:

    80 gallon

    wet/dry sump

    halides and compacts

    goals:

keeping fish, soft corals, anemones,mushrooms/polyps, leathers, lps, but NOT much sps... dont really like em.

    current pumps:

Little Giant 3MDQX-SC for sump return and Gen-X PCX-40 (Mak4) for closed loop.

    problem:

little giant pump is old, and loud as hell now.DOH! genx pump is pretty quiet and working well. would like to put genx pump for sump return and buy new pump for closed loop, but having a difficult time finding a pump that is quiet, gives good flow and not hella expensive. suggestions ? had been looking at the reeflo snapper, poseidon ps4,

I can also entertain the idea of buying two new pumps and selling off the genx.

or junking the closed loop and doing koralia with wave makers

I am on the hunt for an aquarium. I have all the gear i feel is necessary to start up, but am in need for a tank to put it all together.

My goal is to have an ocean garden (reef). I appreciate the appearance of tanks with more depth then length so the reef looks more natural in my eyes.

ideally looking for a tank 48x24x24 or wider (scratch)

    take care

    derek
