a 30 gal sump is fine for that skimmer. i too have an rps 1000 skimmer in a diy 29gal sump. the sump is about 2/3 full(approx. 20 gal) and i did have to lift the skimmer a bit. two 3" abs couplings(on their side) from lowes work great!

curious as to what lighting to put over a 10 gal refugium. is there a minimum requirement for growth of algaes and pods and the like? never set one up and im trying to figure out what to get for optimal performance. thanks all!

thanks for the updates, Garrett. tank is looking sweet! that acro is a perfect fit for your tank, too. btw, i really need to get some of those zoas. let me know when you are ready to trade some frags!

nicely done. way to think outside the cylinder!(laugh)

i think you can find a better fixture for about the same cost. reflectors are everything in t-5 lights, and it only has one cord for both bulbs. no warmup with the actinics. JMO

have to agree with garrett on this one. cant beat a good recirc. IMO. i have a rps1000 on my 100 gal system and love it. cant really control the skimmate, it does it for you. if you want more, i would suggest a mesh mod or an air pump on the intake of the venturi. how big of a system will this be on?

in the process of switching from softies to sps. most of the softies are gone, with the exception of some zoos and a leather. was real reluctant last year to try t-5s as i had not heard much about them. thankfully they are working great. i have the 'made in china special' independent fixtures (5x54watt) over my 72 bow. recently i changed bulbs and used the guiseman(sp) 1100k bulbs. what a difference! i love them. have not found a frag yet that doesnt like t-5s, and have about 20pcs. even 2 clams in the sand at 24" down. unfortunately i have yet to try halides, so i have no comparison to them, but i would go with t-5s again any day. in fact, i think ill try to go get some pics before the lights turn off.

20 gal tank draining into a 25 gal sump. im trying to automate this thing as much as possible. my schedule doesnt always allow me to do weekly water changes. i have the 20 up now and do water changes whenever poissible. i just dont want my livestock to suffer when im not around. but thanks for the input.

sorry, i was out of the area for a couple days. i would like to check that out, Garrett. let me know a good time to hook up, maybe sunday?

Impur...i would like them, but wont be in eugene for a couple weeks. not sure if youre willing to wait. also, a possible trade? if interested pm me. thanks.
Flyguy...I just figured these were all gone. thats what started the thread! ill pm you when i have more time to work out details. thanks

did you get the tunze local? and the pm? how did that one look and sound? do you still have it?
-
well, i think i figured out the noise issues with the tank itself. now i would like to put a skimmer on it. anyone know of a quality skimmer for 40 or so gallons? tried the fission nano and wasnt impressed. then it was a prism, wich worked well, but was extremely noisy and bulky. after that was a skilter, which essentially was the same as the prism as far as noise and bulkiness. would like to find a cylinder type skimmer that isnt 2 feet tall. in sump, hob or whatever works is fine. any ideas? thanks.

hey, impur. what are you looking to get for these? they look nice, are they yumas? and how is your zoo colection coming? ready to offload some tubs yet?
-
thanks, wegotjs! lots of good tricks to fine tune a silent aquarium. now i have work to do to run my own system tests!

Im trying to figure out the quietest way to transfer water from a tank to a sump. i have a diy durso in my display that makes a lot of noise. fortunately it is in the living room, so its not that big of a deal. i would like to put a sump on my daughters 20 gal zoo tank, but it is in her bedroom, so i would like it to be as quiet as possible. the sump will be around 20 gallons, minus equipment and room for overflow. also, i can drill the tank if needed, so please give me your suggestions. thanks.

let me know when you want to hook up. trading sounds like fun!
