  1. My tank is 36 wide, so you can see what 1 light with a Lumenbright looks like. Tank is 72 long, so I have three pendants. Two are 250 one is 400. You would want 400 for a 27" deep tank if you want to grow SPS close to the bottom, but you may want to go with 250 so you can grow lower light corals down there.

My suggestion would be one Lumenbright large (20") with a selectable ballast. Then you could easily switch from 250 to 400 and back if you wish.

Simple...one light, one ballast=cost savings over time.

If you would like to come over and see what that would look like you are welcomed.

  2. I contacted him to see how much we would have to order to get a break on shipping. He never got back to me. Dr Fosters only charges $8 to ship and I think you can order several containers at that cost. The charge for Gettanked was around $35 just for the shipping.

Do you know of any group order details?

  3. Very interested in seing how long a charge lasts. I have read reviews that say the costs will be very high due to a lasting only about 2 weeks. The 5 gal bulk may be the answer! Let us know after a few changes your estimated yearly costs.

  4. DR.,

I noticed this..."I am using GFO/carbon with intermittant bacteria".. and had some thoughts.... might be wrong.

Bacteria need a source for C, N, and P. We dose C (vodka, suger, etc) because the bacteria are carbon limited and will not reduce N and P if not allowed to grow. If you use GFO, will you not be P limited and thus the bacteria will not grow, and thus N will remain high?

I am sure someone out there knows the exact ratios of C-N-P, but if P is low and N is high, how can adding C work?

    Steve...any thoughts?

  5. I do not shake the vial, but swirl it for 30seconds, then let it do the 3 minute read. Should I swirl longer?

The TDS "0" is from both an inline meter and a handheld meter.

I do wipe with a lint free cloth, but there are some minor scratches that were there when the unit was new.

  6. I have been trying to get my PO4 levels down from .06-.05 to the recommended .03 levels for some time now. I purchased a Hannah meter 9 months ago. Yesterday I decided to try testing my RO water. Made sure my sample was 0 TDS (new DI and let it run for a few minutes). Took three samples and the average was around .10. Thought my meter was defective and was thinking of sending it back. Took a sample direct from faucet and the number was .64. Then took a sample from my tank and it was .04. So my meter looks like it is working properly, but I am confused about my RO water being so high. Couple observations....With the fresh water tests, I noticed a very fine film of bubbles on the inside of the glass vial.

Could that be the cause for the high numbers?

Does this test not work well for fresh water?

Is it possible for a PO4 of 0.10 in TDS "0" water?

I tried to clean the inside of the glass vial. Used rubbing alcohol in one and vinegar and rubbing alcohol in the other. Could this be the cause of the very fine bubbles and strange numbers?

Anyone know this meter well enough to guess what is going on?

  7. I used a Reeflow Barracuda for my basement sump. Sump was on a stand, so I only had to go up 12 feet. I had to throttle down the pump because it was too much flow full on. Try to use spaflex if possible...can make a gentle bend which cuts down on loss. Need 11/2 or 2" for the pump.

  8. My Nikon D40 will not register the custom white balance. It does not see the Radium 20K for some reason. Tried the white lid from salt container. Any suggestions? Just shoot RAW and try to change then? My photo program that comes with the Nikon does not go up to 20K when adjusting the RAW files. I think the highest setting is 9800.

Trying to dial in the colors.

  9. I have a 4 year old Traeger wood pellet BBQ. Smith and Wesson model (like the Little Tex, but with some stainless and the digital controller). I am trading up and they will give me $400 trade-in. Thought I would offer to anyone in the club at that price. Comes with the cover.

    Let me know if interested,

    Ken

  10. I have one that you can have. It is blue, leather, and obviously older, but I slept in it when I had my hernia operation and it works for that. Will be home after noon today. We are in Ridgefield, WA. (exit 14).
