  1. Its not hard to do...you just need the right sandpaper and to follow some simple directions. Look for Micro-mesh products or online you can go to Everclear Transparency Solutions and buy a kit.

If the scratches are very small, you might even be able to get a liquid buffing compound that will do what you need. The nice thing about the waterproof sandpaper pads that come with the kit is that they can safely be used inside a stocked tank.....the buffing compound cannot

  2. I have good luck with Joes juice.

However, if i am careless or in a hurry, they simply come back as has been described. It didnt work for me long term either until I figured out how it needs to be used.

I shut off all flow to the tank and slowly approach them not making them flinch........i never actually touch them, i drop the food(joes juice) from slightly above them and allow them to eat absolutely as much as they can hold which is quite a bit of the stuff. I have quite a bit of flow in my tanks so after treating i will leave the flow off for another 5 minutes. It works, they do not come back.

I would like to know what exactly Joes Juice is made from. I would bet money it IS kalk or similar, but with something else added to it that makes them want to eat it.

  3. Ok if anyone out there knows about lenses I think I am going to bite the bullet and get myself a Nikon D80. I know I am going to be getting a couple of different lenses with it but I was wondering about the brands. The cheapest lens available for it is the Sigma which I hadn't heard of before the next step they have is a tamaron lens which I have used on a film camera with good results or there is the nikon lenses which are the most expensive. I mean it is only around $100 in difference but if I can save $100 and still get great photos I will say it is worth it but if they just aren't the same quality I will spend the extra and get the best.

I LOVE my Tamron macro lens on my D100. It was recommended to me by some very skilled photographers who actually prefer it over the nikkor anyway.....

Why i couldnt begin to tell you....lol

    Its a sweet lens :)

  4. Don't know how to post pic's yet but first sump is a simple one. from left to right a 10"X16" for intake w/sock & skimmer' date=' a10"X16" center return and a 11"X 16"X14" fuge. this seems to be a common layout looking forward to filling it tomorrow hopefully no leaks. I have taken pic's from the start building frame drilling tank building sump but all the pic's are 3 to 5 meg's and I have to get my nephew over to show me how to fix the size and post them in the tank section.[/quote']

    Do you use Outlook express??

If so......mail them to yourself. A window will pop up asking you if you want to shrink them to send them...walla...insta shrink.

Or you can get free photobucket account and then post them full size as well as some easy editing options.

  5. Also keep in kind that if you are using a in sump skimmer, you want the first baffle in the skimmer section a little higher than the last, set at the optimum operating water level for your skimmer. That way the water level NEVER changes in your skimmer section, so that evaporation and if and how your ATO works will not matter. It will skim consistently the wet or dryness you prefer.

  6. After Eric Borneman's Oxygen presentation this afternoon' date=' I'm definitely going to get some Chaeto in there with an out of phase light cycle. The oxygenation benefits are definitely worth whatever additional maintenance is required.[/quote']

It crossed my mind too....even though i personally really really really really dont like refugiums.....

But did you notice that in the wild.........there was the same kind of swing??

Of course.....this is in regard to larger systems........

  7. Hey fly' date=' how did you like the light? I was thinking about getting the same one[/quote']

Dude, it was the SWEETEST light I have ever used. All of my clams and stonies had a minimum of 1" per month growth under them. It was INCREDIBLE!!!!!

HEY...heres an idea....why dont you buy THIS one?? Ill make you a deal.

    he he he

But seriously...it IS a great light for what it is.

  8. There is no right or wrong answer here....

obviously there are some people who have developed a means of using them to their advantage, others have their systems set up in such a way that they are not necessary and more of a PITA and mess than they are worth.

Like everything in this hobby..many ways to a beautiful reef, you just have to find out what works best for you. ;)

  9. ok...thinking of using spa flex instead of the rigid pvc.....but i got a question.....how do i attatch it to the threads on the backside of the bulkhead? just slip it over and use a screw clamp? and then on my return do i just use a pvc "y" and then clamp the ends of the hose over the pvc? is this leakproof? It seems the threads would allow water to leak out......any ideas? maybe a female 1.25" adapter over the threads then the spaflex over the smooth adapter and then the clamp? im kinda stuck......and if i use flex hose how do i attach the ball valves?

NO to the screw clamp. Use either a threaded male adapter or a threaded 90 into the bulkhead......the flex pipe is glued inside that. The spa flex is not to be clamped onto anything....it is glued in place just like regular pvc.

Same goes for the "y".....the flex is glued inside the fitting......being as losing a l;ittle bit of flow doesnt usually matter on your return, you cna simply take a T and glue two 45's to it for your Y....Y's are hard to find.

Same with ball valves.......use slip ball valves and glue the flex INSIDE the valve just like regular PVC. When you get the parts together...post again or call me if you still have my number......ill give you a few tricks to using flex PVC that will make it a little easier for ya. :)

Also think in advance of what parts of this system might ever need to be removed..........install unions so you can easily do so.

  10. that sucks.

I think Nyles idea of tricking them into giving you an honest report of what it is in the water might very well be worth $20.

Is it possible to get a sample of water from before the lines to your store start? Might at least be able to isolate if it is indeed a city problem or a landlord/personal problem.

    Sorry to hear :(
