heres an update......

had a 46 thati was using as a holding tank for half of my lps........it cracked so i ended up adding a bunch of corals abouot 24 hours after adding water to the system.......

everything seems to be just fine.......the lights on the tankm are pc's off of the 46 though....lol

I didnt read this entire thread but im in for two of those if possible.......

I know it happens all over in the world around us but it disgusting just ther same.........

The law should be broadened to say something like....It is unlawful under the UN, whatever god you worship and your mother to wreak havoc and relentlessly destroy Mother Nature for personal gain or profit. Penalty will be death and eternal damnation in the hell you have chosen............

ok..ok......a LITTLE unrealistic and leaves a LITTLE bit of grey area there................but thats not the point...........

actually what i do for a living could fall under that from SOMEONES perspective..............so lets just say that rule will apply to everybody but flyfisherman...............

and my original one for a glass tank WITH a pvc frame...but the pvc is entirely sumbmerged in the sand and out of sight ....HERE

I think as far as the digger goes...i dont think it would be necessary...but then again, the only "diggers" i have kept are a couple of diffeent eels....ive always been more into corals than the fish...there very well might be some critters that require some rock in the sand............ ??????

actually its for complete and thorough flow through the tank....i lift my rock about 3 inches off of the substrate.......I dont practice the theory myself becasue i like the look of rock wall to wall...but i think you could actually get away with much less rock than the 1-1 1/2 lb per gallon standard to achieve adequate biological filtration becasue all of your rock is actually being used....with good random flow and spraybars flowing both in and underneath the rock.....there are no dead spots anywhere.......

just finished putting rock in........kinda sad.......this rock had about 4 different colors of coralline on it before i cooked it.......im really hoping the blue and oranges come back

Just thought i would post a couple of pics here...im kinda proud of the set up...it took long enough to finally get together being as we had a baby in march...........i started the project in late April.

It is a 225, dsb lps/predator tank......predators yet to be determined as i am just now putting the rock that has been cooking for 10 weeks in the tank...HOPEFULLY this evening if the dust clears a little.

I built the sump myself from scratch out of 1/2" plexi.

The system uses a sequence barracuda to power a Oceans Motions 8 way water router...i had paul cut me a custom drum that is spread evenly 1/3, 1/3 etc......my point in doing it that way was so that i never had more than 1/3 of my cls flow going to the spraybars at one time. You can see in the picture of the plumbing that they are right next to each other as far as the OM ports go.........the other six OM ports go across the back of the tank...3 on each side of the overflow and have omniflex nozzles to control their direction.

The return is powered by sequence dart which also supplies flow to a canister filter for running carbon and a pci 1/4 horse chiller. Lighting consists of 3 250 mh's and 2 110 vho's.

I have all the rock lifted with acrylic rods on a concept which i came up with becasue i hate the look of pvc as well as it allows for much better flow underneath than pvc provides.

As soon as i finish this i am doing a 90 BB sps tank build which is incorporating oceans motions as well as a sweet tank that James built me with a 100% external coast to coast overflow........i am going to have some SERIOUS flow going through it......exact number yet to be determined.(plotting)

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this

land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one,suggests we should tear

down the Statute of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being

treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of

entry. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like

Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of

immigrant any longer.

Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the

United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New

York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and

kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new

country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in

their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with

their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their

children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children

assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them.

All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade

for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father

fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy ,

France and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any

thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans

fighting Hilter, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the

United States of America as one people.

When we liberated Fr ance, no one in those villages were looking for the

French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of

France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country.

Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another

country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a

disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These

immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot

into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and

privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules,

one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful

to their mother country.

I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who

landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work

and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for

those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being

used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statute of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot

to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about

dismantling the United States just yet.

Im actually copycatting one...but adding indicator lights for the switches. Each switch is individually fused...i dont advocate it for everybody but with the unit above everything and each socket with its own individual switch i can confidently and safely run it without gfi service. I personally do not trust gfi's for my reefs.

I just had a son a few months back and he is the world to me but he really doesnt care that i have reefs to build!!!! I made the mistake of starting two builds right before he was born.......im STILL working on them..... haha

My father made me this..........but its defintely NOT economy style. But when you go to plu something into it or flip a switch it IS solid. Wired to its own breaker in the main.

Im looking into getting a Nikon d-70 shortly but a couple of months ago i did something novel...I READ the manual for this old Olypmus C-3000 zoom ive got and spent $100 on ebay for a macro lens. All of these were taken with that old 3.3 AFTER reading the directions..haha

Moral to the story is that there are a lot of different cameras that will take pretty good shots if you know how to work them......funny thing about that is that i accidentally reset my camera to defaults after getting them to where i want and now i suck again.......i need to find that manual

I use both brands on different systems...........i generally use them to run my carbon........i just plumba a 1/2" T off of my sump return lines to run both those and my chillers so no extra pump is necessary......and the valve isnt so important either because you have to have one to control the flow off of your return line. They are exactly the same however and the TLF one is cheaper AND with the free valve to boot.....

Thanks for the welcome everybody....the rock sits on top of the acrylic rods.....thats why i make the teeth in top fo the rods....they stick like glue.........it allows for complete flow underneath and is nearly invisible unlike pvc on both counts. Here is the original tank i tried the concept on..........and the latest

ive been playing with a few different ways to lift the rock a bit without having to look at pvc......heres my latest.......super strong and super easy to do....all you need is a bunch of 3/4" acrylic rods cut to whatever length you want, a 3/4" drill bit, table saw(or any saw...table saw is safer : )) and a grinder.....

this is actually a dsb lps predator tank...im doing another bb tank shortly and will take a lot more time on the acrylic supports as they will actually be visible......

i use 1/2" acrylic rods for rock to rock when necessary and a masonry bit
